I have had a couple emails with questions related to Adventista Bilingue for both the Escuela (grade school – kinder through grade 6) and the colegio (high school – grades 7-12).

I had some time this morning and drove up to the schools. Both schools are located on the edge of David on the right side of the InterAmerican Highway going toward the Frontera.

I first entered the Escuela and talked to the folks in the administrative office. They said they would send me information via email related to their offerings. My understanding, from this morning, is that the escuela has around 175 students. They teach English classes and I think science in English. All of the other classes are in Spanish. Following is a photo of the school.

I just ran across an interesting post on the BOOKMARK’s blog, describing how the BOOKMARK came into being. Myself, being but a mere apprentice Curmudgeon, I have to bow to what Hal has accomplished and to the joy he has made in many gringo’s lives that have moved to Chiriquí.

If you want to read about a little local color, then read Hal’s post on “A History of the BookMark”. /

Mar Caribe en Pedregal

Yesterday’s outing took us to Pedregal and Restaurante Mar Caribe. It had been recommended on Saturday.

To get to the restaurant, drive past the airport toward the marina. A little past the airport, on the right, you will see the restaurant.

Here is a photo of the front of the restaurant. As you can see it is a rustic open air restaurant.

C&W Is SLOOOOOOW Today

C&W is marginally better than dial-up today. Good thing I am getting ready to go out.

Yesterday morning, I took the UPS back to PriceSmart that was failing for a week. I had monitored the device all week so that I could accurately explain what the problem was.

I took it to the customer desk and they promptly called the resident expert to check UPS. He took the UPS and plugged it in, the LCD display appeared and he said. It looks OK.

I explained that the problem was that throughout the day, the unit would beep and think that there was no power and switch to the battery and then in 15 minutes or so would switch back and start charging the battery. I don’t know if he was listening or thinking about what ever he want to think about, but then he pointed and showed that the charge was increasing and said. All was OK. At that time, I started to get disgusted. I told him you could not see the problem, if you watched the device for a couple of minutes, Continue Reading »

What a Beautiful Morning

The birds are happy. The air is fresh. The sun is peaking out. This is going to be a great day!

Ashes To Ashes

Ashes to Ashes and Dust to Dust, but this to who knows what? This used to be the Shell station across from Super Baru and between Ricardo Perez and Plaza El Terronal. It is being turned into more small stores I hear, but I will know when I see it. In the last couple of days, there has been a lot of work going on.
