ARANJUEZ Hotel & Suites in David

A new hotel has opened up in David. it is ARANJUEZ Hotel & Suites. On Monday I went to take a look at the rooms. I am impressed with the quality of this hotel. It’s website is very accurate and includes photos of all rooms as well as a google map of its location. It is on the road to the airport.

Yesterday, Lilliam and I went there for lunch to celebrate our anniversary. I am including photos of the menu to give you an idea of the current prices. We chose to eat the Executive Special. I had Lomo and Lillian had chicken breast.

I especially enjoyed the minestrone soup.

This is a first class hotel. It uses card access to the rooms and everything has been nicely done. It is really a nice addition to the David Hotels. It is now the most convenient hotel to the airport.

I am including some photos I took yesterday. If you stop into ARANJUEZ Hotel & Suites, tell them you saw them on Chiriqui Chatter. Check out their website for more photos and directions to the hotel.

Mojito in the Morning

I have been spending mornings in front of International Hotel Suites in David.

IMG_0195IMG_0194They have a restaurant called Mojitos and since I am writing in the mornings, I thought I would see if Hemingway’s morning pick-me-up would improve my writing.

10:30 AM is a little early for a mojito, but to test my theory I ordered one. Now mint for a mojito doesn’t get any fresher than this. Picked right beside the outdoor table I was sitting at.

Mighty tasty. Not sure it helped my writing, but my outlook on life was a little more frisky afterwards.

If you drop into Mojitos, tell them you read about them on Chiriquí Chatter.

Photos I took of the rooms when it was the Best Western may still apply. You may find the hotel’s website HERE.

La Pepita in Las Lajas

I received the following for posting. From looking at the website, it will probably be worth the drive to Las Lajas just to try the Italian food.

Hi all, we are an Italian couple that moved to Panama 2 years ago and we’ve just opened a little Bed&Breakfast called La Pepita de Marañon in Las Lajas town.

Las Lajas is a nice quiet town 45 minutes far from David with a wonderful 15 miles sandy beach that you can reach in 10 minutes from the Panamerican highway.

Our B&B is strategically situated on the main way to the beach and is very close to the town and banks, restaurants and hospital.

You can’t recognize La Pepita because is built using traditional materials like wood, bamboo and palm leaves  for the roof so to obtain a natural air conditioning that guarantees a mild temperature both night and day;

From our B&B you will enjoy a beautiful mountain view and a familiar atmosphere surrounded by the sound of Chiriquí  nature.

Our services include rooms with private bathroom, ceiling fan, towels, hot water, laundry service, shuttle to the beach, private relax area with hammocks, Dvd, games and book exchange.

Rates per night are 40 $ ( 2 guests), 30 $ in the low season with breakfast included in the price.

We can also provide touristic informations and arrange tours: in the aerea there are a lot of interesting spots like waterfall and petroglyph in Nancito, Selva de adentro y de Afuera Islands, the Ngobe Bugle Comarca, etc…

Last but not least, we can offer to our guests a wide range of traditional homemade italian dishes!

Treating Myself to Lunch at Hotel Ciudad de David

Since I am batching it for a while and tired of bologna sandwiches, I decided to take my self to Hotel Ciudad de David for a noon buffet.

I always enjoy their buffet, which is one of the better ones in David. It is $12 on Monday through Saturday and $16 on Sundays. Jubilado’s receive a 25% discount.

There is always a good soup, plenty of salad, two meat dishes and vegetables and super desserts. A complementary wine, iced tea, or soda goes with the meal.

I recorded my drive to the hotel and it follows:

Hotel Residencial Obaldia

A new hotel has just opened in David on Ave. Obaldia (the street that runs in front of Super Baru) across the street from Estadio Kenny Serracin.

NOTE: Verify all rates prior to check in. The rates quoted below are a best effort by me to get rates.

The prices are $30.25 for a single, $38.50 for a double, $49.50 for a triple and $58.00 for quadrupole.

All rooms are non smoking and have WiFi connections. Here is a photo of the lobby. Continue reading Hotel Residencial Obaldia

Toco Madera in Hotel Ladera

On May the 30th we took Natalie to Restaurante Todo Madera in Hotel Ladera to wish her bon voyage for her trip to China. I had been meaning to try this restaurant and this seemed like a good time to do it.

Just as we parked I saw my friend Alvaro González. I told him I had been meaning to try the restaurant.

The restaurant is very nice with ample wood and marble.
