Seasons Restaurant – Boquete

I received a request to post the following:

Seasons Restaurant

÷
Nestled in the heart of the emerald green highlands of Boquete, Panama, a surprising culinary jewel has emerged. Season Restaurant, the signature feature of the newly opened clubhouse of Lucero Golf & Country Club brings fine dining to a new level.

A native of New York and Panamanian resident, Season Executive Chef Craig Jacobs, draws on influences from his travels to countries as far as Northern Thailand and as close as Cuba and Peru to create menu that is as committed to fresh season ingredients as it is to change. “Seasons will be ever changing,” said Chef Jacobs, “I will modify the menu using what is fresh and in season. We will have a farm-to-table concept and we are starting to plant many ingredients onsite.”

It’s hard to imagine a more fitting environment for exploring Chef Craig’s international fusion menu than the pool side dining deck, or Season’s breezy indoor dining room, which is an equally enticing spot to meet for a drink or to entertain those out-of-town guests who are sure to arrive once word of Chef Craig’s Seasons Restaurant gets out.

Seasons Restaurant, located in La Estrella, Jaramillo, in Boquete, will open its doors on July 18th, and will be open Wednesdays through Mondays from 11:30am to 9pm.

Moon Valley Donuts – Boquete

WP_20151212_001

Deborah and I had to go to SEhop to pick up a package from the U.S.

As we walked out of EShop, we see Moon Valley across the street and had to try it.

I met Luis and his wife who have been married for 30 years and recently moved to Boquete from Venezuela and opened Moon Valley Donuts

I enjoyed talking to Luis and he and his family are providing very taste products.

Deborah got some empanadas to go and we took 5 donuts. All were excellent.

If you find yourself in Boquete, look up Moon Valley Donuts and tell them you read about them on Chiriquí Chatter.

Helados JTO – Boquete

IMG_0657Antonio Errante owns and operates Helados JTO in Boquete in the shopping area adjacent to the bridge that crosses over to the fair grounds. When my cousin was here from New York, this is one of the places we dropped into in Boquete.

While Lilliam and my cousin Joy were shopping in an shop next door, I slipped into JTO to take a look. One look told me I had to get Lilliam and Joy to have some ice cream before we left Boquete.

The ice cream took me back to the ice cream Lilliam and I had in Rome and with good cause. Antonio hails from Sicily.

The ice-cream was fantastic. If you visit Boquete and don’t stop in, you have missed a real treat.

However, the biggest treat for us was when Antonio took to the keyboard and serenaded the clients. I am including a short clip to give you a taste of the entertainment.

To get a taste of the fabulous ice cream, you will have to stop in yourself. Photos don’t do it justice.

Remember to tell them you learned about them on Chiriquí Chatter.

Big Daddy’s in Boquete Revisited

Following the Embassy meeting last Wednesday, Lilliam, Natalie and I headed to Big Daddy’s for lunch. This was my second time there and it is under different management than my previous visit.

It may be new management to us, but the food was still great and service friendly and attentive.

I ordered fish tacos. They had been recommended on my previous visit, but being from Texas, there was just something about fish being in a taco, that didn’t compute.

This time I got past my bias and thought they were outstanding. I ordered onion rings and they were good, but not the best rings I have had, I was so stuffed that I could not order dessert.

Lilliam had hot wings and liked them. She did comment they were spicy. DUH.

Natalie had a cheese burger and was very  happy with it.

I like Big Daddy’s because it is casual, has good food and is reasonably priced for the food I received.

If you stop in, tell them you heard about them on Chiriquí Chatter.

The last day that Heather was here, we showed her around Boquete. We stopped at Casona Del Cusco for lunch. It was new to me, but I understand it has been open for around 10 months.

I have to say I was very impressed. It was new, fresh, nicely decorated, but more important I thought the food was exceptionally good and priced well.

It is easy to find because you just follow the signs to Valle Escondido. On the next to the last turn before Valle Escondido, you will see the restaurant.

Natalie and Heather had a Pisco Sour. I passed, since I was acting as chauffeur.

I didn’t take a photo of the menu, but the prices were very fair. Following are photos of the four plates we ordered. Mine was the most expensive as it was loaded with seafood. If I remember right it was around $12. the others were less.

Everyone spoke highly of their meal. I will go there again.

Las Ruinas Boquete Restaurant Revisited

My last visit to Las Ruinas was in March of 2010. Since I wanted to talk to Hal at The BOOKMARK, I decided to try Las Ruinas again for last Sunday’s lunch. Ir recently got the highest number of votes in the Boquete Guide poll.

The restaurant looks pretty much the same as in my original post.

I thought all prices on the menu were very reasonable.

I chose the Philly Cheese steak sandwich.

To be honest, I was disappointed. I am a provolone cheese steak kinda guy and cheez whiz just is not what I want on a cheese steak. Other than the cheese, I thought the rest was fine. I liked the coleslaw and ranch fries.

My dining companion had the fish and chips. Continue reading Las Ruinas Boquete Restaurant Revisited

The Rock in Boquete

Sunday is the day I like to have a higher quality meal. It is the day I splurge a little and yesterday was no exception. My neighbor and I decided that yesterday should be a Boquete outing. I only go to Boquete a couple times a year, so I decided to go to one of the higher ranked restaurants in Boquete – The Rock.

The Rock was called the Palo Alto Riverside Restaurant, the last time I went there. The new restaurant was redone following the last Boquete flood, which forced the remodeling.

I liked the decor of the new restaurant.
