Sundays are for sauerkraut and red cabbage. At least yesterday was. After posting about Bistro Aleman, I have had a hankering for some good German food and Sunday seemed like the time to give it a try.
After church, four of us headed up to Algarrobos in search of the Bistro. From talking to the proprietor, I earned that it has only been open for about three months, so many around here may not have heard of it, just like I hadn’t.
Following the map on the previous post, I was able to locate the restaurant, even with the messed up roads going to Boquete.
There was no menu. We were just told what was available and it was two dishes, one was a pork dish with red cabbage and the other a german sausage with sauerkraut. Three of us had the pork and one had the sausage. Both were accompanied with a round patty that is very similar to a thanksgiving stuffing.
Everyone was very pleased with their selection. I was ready for a good strudel, but alas, there were no desserts.
The restaurant is open every day except Monday, which is the day that all new fresh products are obtained- The restaurant also sells various sausage, bacon, meatloaf and maybe something I didn’t see for takeout.
If you have a desire for some real German food, you might want to give it a try. It is on my list of places to revisit. Remember to tell them you heard about them on Chiriquí Chatter.
