  1. I remember visiting with my Grand-Parents on their farm in Virginia…..I was a city boy from South Side Chicago….. 7 years old —- got to help Grandpa milk his 3 cows every day for 3 weeks before I turned 8 in September…..what an experience and I loved the Butter Milk and the Sweet Butter after sitting there on the back porch with a big old wooden Churn, exercising my muscles at 7 (almost 8)…..went back there in Summers for the next 6 years just to churn that sweet fresh butter milk and real butter…. they had no running water on their farm….but an absolute sweet water bubbling up spring and they had built a stone building around it so the birds – etc would stay away….. You needed a bath, go get a bucket of water, stand outside on the back porch use a special dipper, wet yourself down, take that bar of soap, and soap and lather up, a couple of more dippers to rinse off , towel dry, get dressed and wow, what an experience for me THEN !!!!
