Yesterday’s outing took us to The Domain shopping area in Austin. I guess you would call it an open mall. All stores are entered from the street. Plenty of high end stores, but no covered in the event of inclement weather. It is a very high end shopping area, with upscaled shops and plenty of restaurants.
The reason for choosing The Domain was because it contained the Apple Store that was going to receive the Apple iPad Air 2 I had ordered. When I ordered it, the delivery date indicated that it might be delivered on the 31st, which was the day before our departure for Panama. Therefore, I put the delivery in my daughter’s name in case something happened and the delivery was delayed.
Last week I received an email updating the delivery to the 24th. Going on the 23rd was a day early, but I wanted to know where the store was and knew Lilliam would find a few stores to entertain her. The parking garage was close to the Apple Store (what luck), and Apple was our first stop (surprise).
Like all Apple stores I have been to, it was well laid out, was packed with people, and had an attendant at the door to assist you. He checked my order and it had not been checked into inventory. He assured me that if the delivery time said the 24th, then it should be here no later then the 24th. No problem. I would come back tomorrow.
I took some time to check out the iPhone 6. For my needs, I like the 6 better then the 6+. I would like to replace my iPhone 4S. I asked about unlocked versions, and was told it would be a couple months before they were available. Shucks.
After a short time we left to let Lilliam satisfy her shopping urges. We wound up at a store called A&M. She had plenty to look at and I noticed that there was a Microsoft store a short distance away. I have been curious to look at the new Microsoft products, so while Lilliam was looking at everything in A&M, I walked over tot the Microsoft store.
As I walked in, there were three other people looking at products and about twice as many employees to help then. What a difference from the packed Apple Store, I almost felt sorry for the employees. So many products on display and very few people looking at them.
As I left, I thought that Windows 10.0 better help ignite some enthusiasm, because hardware was not drawing in the people. I returned to A&M, where I found my absence had not been noticed.
Lilliam looked at several stores. We stopped at California Pizza for lunch and walked back to the car around 3PM. as I was setting up directions on Wase to take me to another mall, I got a message on my iPhone from my daughter. She had just received a text message from Apple that my iPad was ready to be picked up.
What luck! Five minutes later and I would have been on the freeway. We returned to the Apple Store and had an assistant assigned to get my iPad. I purchased a cover at the Apple Store because the iPad Air 2 is so new that no one else has covers.
This post is being written on the new baby. It is so light and so pretty. I bought the gold version. Since engraving was free, I had ordered it with the quotation from James Dean. “Dream like you will live forever. live like you will die today,”
That is exactly what I have been doing on this trip. Life is good and any day with Lilliam is a wonderful day. One more week and we will return to Panama. Now go out and enjoy your day.
