I received the following for posting.
Hola, Don! I should’ve thought of emailing you sooner about this, but it just dawned on me after my daily check of your site. The Sound of the Spade eBook is still available for free until midnight tonight.
If you see this in time, please consider posting the following for your readers:
Writer R. Allen Larsen and illustrator Nik Geiger-Duran, both residents of Boquete, have collaborated to produce Sound of the Spade. This eBook comprises four haunting stories, including 2012 Chris O’Malley Prize in Fiction winner “Fireflies,” a stark, graphic tale of a paroled killer working in a nursing home; “Postal Blue,” a flash fiction piece about a postal worker on the verge of psychological disintegration; “Ant God,” a story depicting the short- and long-term effects of a boy’s brutal upbringing; and “Weeping Water,” an experimental, alternating points-of-view work detailing a woman’s visit to her grandmother’s deathbed. [Be forewarned: These stories are not for the faint of heart or those who swoon at a stray profanity or three.]
For this weekend only (11/9 – 11/10), you may download Sound of the Spade for free at
Thank you, Don! I’ve enjoyed “lurking” on you site for years. And thanks for all you do for the community, both expat and Panamanian.
