Gelato Pacifico in Chiriquí Mall Food Court

Today, I bring you good tidings. There is now a good reason to go to the Chiriquí Mall. I was there today because I wanted a good Philly Cheesesteak sandwich at the Pizza Pit. I was talking to Ricardo and saying the thing I would like in David was some good ice cream.

Ricardo said there was a new Gelato place that had opened there in the food court. When I finished eating at the Pizza Pit, I went in search of some ice cream.

There it was! Gelato Pacifico. Sure enough, the display case showed ice cream in trays as opposed to commercial tubs. There was hope that this might be the real thing. Being cautious, I ordered a medium vanilla. It came in a waffle cone (made at the store and not bought). My intention was to know if this was worthwhile before taking photos. I have been let down before.

I am here to tell you that the vanilla was outstanding. It definitely passed my taste test. Unfortunately, it was so good I forgot to take a photo before finishing the cone. The good news is that I have a reason to go back and try another flavor.

Here is a photo of the display case. As you can see, I had eight favors to choose from today. Vanilla is a good first choice, because if I don’t like the vanilla, I most likely won’t like any of the other favors either.

Here is a photo of the favors that normally available. There are 16 flavors listed. It also shows the cone prices. For $1.25 and the quality of ice cream and the cone, I was a happy camper. If I hadn’t just filled up at Pizza Pit, I would have had a second.

Here is a photo of David Stewart, the owner and chief gelato engineer. He is from Houston, Texas and a welcome addition to David. It is about time David (the City) had some good ice cream, oops, I mean gelato.

The next time you have a sweet tooth that needs feeding, remember Gelato Pacifico. Don’t forget to tell them you heard about them on Chiriquí Chatter. Maybe I will see you there.

Following is David’s business card. Let him know that you are glad he is here.

  1. Good to know, Don. We had gelato every day in Sicily this June. It will be worth trying it at Gelato Pacifico to see how it compares. If it is just as good, I’ll let you know.

  2. This is, indeed, good news. A great way to fight the heat in David. Run your errands, cool off with a gelato at the mall, then tackle Pricesmart.

  3. Howdy! I am David stewart of Gelato Pacifico and my wife Keyla and I would like to welcome everybody here in Chiriqui to enjoy fresh home made gelato and cones. We are making many new flavors including coconut. And we would love to hear input and ideas for any and all. Please come by and check us out.

  4. Hi David. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Speaking for myself, I intend to come by often.

By the way, the second flavor I tried today, Terimasu, was fabulous. My plan is to try a different flavor each time I come.

  5. My husband and I went to the Chiriqui Mall Monday for the first time (new to the area) and stopped at the Gelato Pacifico. To our disappointment is was closed.

Was is closed just for the day, or are they out of the business?

  6. Hello everybody. Our regular hours are 12PM to 7:30PM Sunday through Thursday, and from 12PM to 8:30PM Friday and Saturday. In the near future we plan to open earlier and have some good coffee, both light and dark roasts and Gringo style half and half on the side as well as leche evaporada for those who like cream. Regarding Monday, yes we were closed most of the day due to freezer problems which are now resolved. Sorry for any inconvenience this caused. Mary, we would love to see you and your husband. Please come by.

  7. Glad to hear it will be open earlier! We were looking for it yesterday around noon, and finally figured out it was that only place in the food court that was closed. We wondered if it was in business; there was no sign posting hours. Looking forward to trying it….
