Restaurante Muelle 18

CLOSED!!!

A Panamanian friend of mine told me about a new restaurant that has opened in David. It is Restaurante Muelle 18, and is just to the left of the Steak House. It is open 7 days a week from 11:30 until 11:00 PM.

Samuel, the owner, told me that he had some restaurants in Panama City, but wanted to return home. I asked him about the name of the restaurant, He said there was a famous Dock 18 in Panama City and he used to like going there. That explains the name – Muelle 18 (i.e. Dock 18).

A reader of Chiriqui Chatter from the U.S. was here the other day and we tried it out. When we got there, there was only one table being used, but during the time we were there, all tables filled. Word of new restaurants spread quickly.

The sign gives the phone numbers and the hours. The sign tells you it that it specializes in seafood with Panamanian influence.

This photo is take facing north. The InterAmerican Hwy is a block off.

Here is a photo taken of the front. The patio on the left, is scheduled to have a covered area and there will be a BBQ added in the future. It has only been open for a few days, so it is still a work in progress.

Here is a photo of the inside. It has a casual atmosphere, but is nicely done. The area in the back of the photo has a wine rack being built and it will go where the plant is.

Here is the current menu. I thought the prices were reasonable. However, when my plate came, I thought it was more than reasonable. The current menu is in Spanish, but another menu is being made to have both Spanish and English.

I never ask for a Pensionado discount at new restaurants as long as the service is good and the prices are within reason, because I know that startup expenses are tough and I want all good restaurants to succeed.

I ordered fried shrimp and my friend ordered sweet and sour shrimp. We both enjoyed what we ordered and were stuffed when we finished.

There are plenty more items on the menu I want to try and being open on Sunday will provide a good opportunity.

If you drop in, tell you heard about them on Chiriquí Chatter. Here is a URL for a Google Map to assist you in finding it.

  1. Hi Don,
I’m always up for trying new restaurants and this one looks pretty good. I will plan on going Tuesday when I’m in David.

There is another David ‘seafood’ restaurant, not yet open as of my last trip, on the Boquete highway, just north of the cars-for-sale lot. Do you know anything about it?

  2. I have been back to Muelle 18 recently and it was apparent that the chef had changed
(I confirmed by asking). The fish I ordered was nothing like the first time and the food was salty. People were still ordering the fried shrimp, so maybe that is still good.
