Rant For The Day

It has been a while since I have had anything to rant about. I have done a fair job of shedding the Type A personality that was a requirement for the 30 years I worked in Ross Perot companies. Every once in a while I get a flash back and things, that might not bother others, bother me.

Today was one of those days. I went to Boquete to visit a friend that lives in Valle Escondido. I have been other times without problems, but today was different. If you have never been to Valle Escondido, it has a guard gate you must pass through.

Since I was going to a residence, I had to request a card that allowed passage through the automated gate. Today, the guard asked to see some identification. I assumed it was to record my name for security reasons. I had no problem with that and handed him my pensionado card. He took it and returned with the electronic gate card.

I asked about my pensionado card and he said he would give it back when I left. I told I didn’t like that, but since I was on a tight schedule, I went on. Continue reading Rant For The Day

My best childhood memory was falling asleep on the couch and waking up in bed thinking.. “Wow, I can teleport”.

Conúltenos, S.A. – VW of David

The VW dealer in David has been open for about a year, but it was only a week or so ago that I dropped in. From what I have read, VW is wanting to increase its world presence.

Besides VWs, they are also carrying Audi. Their presence in David will no doubt have an effect on sales in Toyota and Honda.

I had stopped in about a month ago and they have a small VW that I really liked. I didn’t have my camera on that day and when I took these photos, the small models had been sold.

I have seen a lot of VWs driving around David, so the word has already gotten around.

If you stop in the dealership, tell them you read about them on Chiriquí Chatter.

Every time I go to the pool in my bathing suit I can feel all the women dressing me with their eyes.

The End Of One Journey and the Beginning of Another

Yesterday evening, Lilliam and I were privileged to be invited to watch Ana Lucia Soto Rivas present her thesis. The presentation took place at the Universad Tecnológia de Panamá in David, Chiriquí.

Her thesis and presentation was related to the Banking Industry in Chiriqui. It was specifically focused on the communication and service as viewed by its English speaking clients.

You may remember that originally I posted a survey which could be filled out and would be used in a face to face interview by Ana.

After Ana and I discussed her project, I offered to put an automated survey system on my web server so that she could more easily receive input from the English speaking banking clients. Many of the Chiriquí Chatter readers, who had experience with Chiriquí banks, responded to the request for assistance.

Yesterday, you would have been proud of how well Ana presented her findings. Many of Ana’s family, friends, and associates were present as she gave her presentation in front of the reviewing committee.

In a past life, I have managed large projects, in the Washington D.C. area, that required months of preparation and practice resulting in a day or more of presentations to government officials. I can’t remember any of those presentations being done better than Ana’s. She was excellent.

Following her presentation, the reviewing committee met and presented Ana with the highest possible score. Tears streamed from her mother’s eyes and I am sure her father’s chest expanded with pride. This marks the end of one journey in Ana’s life and I can assure you that she has a great future in front of her. Remember her name, she is going to do great things.

After the announcement of her grade, by the reviewing committee, there was a table of refreshments that had been catered by Cuatro. The perfect end to a perfect project. Lilliam and I felt fortunate to be at this important event in the life of a good friend of ours.

Following is a gallery of a few of the photos that I took yesterday.
