Planet Telecom

UPDATED March 23, 2011 -

I just received an email from Dave saying that Planet Telecom now has service in Volcan, Paso Ancho and parts of Cerro Punta. I will leave this notice on the front page of CC for a few days to get the word out.

Feb 6, 2011 – I received the following information that may be of interest to anyone living in a rural area of Chiriqui.

For some, living in a paradise like Panama is a dream come true. Warm weather, friendly people, and an excellent value for the dollar.
But, there are some challenges that residents have historically had to learn to live with, one of which being a lack of quality, reliable Internet access.

Since the arrival of Planet Telecom Panama, that is beginning to change. Residents now have an alternative to what was being offered before, opening up the online world for things like shopping, online reading and research, remote offices, Skype and IP telephones, and even web browsing – allowing clients to better communicate with the world at large.

With a head office in David with another location in Boquete, Planet Telecom Panama is an established Internet Service Provider with a wide reaching wireless network that offers residents an alternative to the incumbent options, and, in some of the more remote locations – the ability to have Internet services where there was no connectivity at all.

By offering services many locations throughout the Province of Chiriqui, such as: Jaramillo, El Salto,
Alto Boquete,
El Francés,
Potrerillos Abajo, Potrerillos Arriba, Rovira,
El Banco,
Palma Real, Aguacate, Santa Rita, Cordillera,
 Cuesta de Piedra,
La Estrella, Santa Marta, El Tejar de Alanje,
 Alanje,
Tijeras de Alanje, Puerto Armuelles, Boca Brava, Boca Chica and surrounding Islands,
Las Lajas (at the beach)
Volcancito. (Volcan soon!); Planet Telecom Panama is proud to service a vast geographical area and mix of clientele, and has a developed client base in the Ex-Patriot community as well as with Panamanian Nationals.

Planet Telecom Panama is a Panamanian/Canadian company that has built this thriving business on the principle of delivering a high quality product, and supporting it with peerless customer service.

“The culture that permeates throughout our entire organization is one of ensuring the quality of service that clients are getting is second to none – on both the network and service side” says Dave Veilleux, President and founder of Planet Telecom.

“We don’t work to find ways to cut corners and save costs in order to deliver an inferior product at a rock bottom price, it’s just not a sustainable model. We build, maintain and continually improve our network so that we can offer a better alternative.

For example, we have battery backups running on all of our towers – so that when there’s a power outage, people are able to retain their services so long as they have a charge in their laptops. We have also invested in carrier grade infrastructure for our core network to offer a more reliable and consistent experience for the end user – because that is valuable to them.

When the rubber really hits the road, the frustration that some people experience here, coupled with the inability to do what you need to do on the internet is a pretty big price to pay – and often far outweighs any potential savings that may be available from some of the other providers. ”

“We’ve found that clients want (and what Planet Telecom Panama does incredibly well) is for us to deliver a solid network for a very fair price, and we keep that price consistent – even though in some of the regions we service, we’re the only option for internet.

We feel that if we work hard to offer the client a choice of something better, build a more reliable network, and stand behind it 100%, we’re winning the business.

People understand and relate to this concept, and if they’re our clients, they’re very, very happy…”

Planet Telecom has been repeatedly praised as “The Best ISP in Panama” by their clients. They support and work within their community and has friendly, knowledgeable staff to assist with your every need in both languages, they are not perfect, but strive to be so.

  1. Good morning Don.. do you have any word on the closing of road from Boquete to David ? We are headed to the David airport and just wanted to make sure we could get there. We are hearing all kinds of reports, but not sure how accurate.
    Many Thanks dede

  2. Hi Norm, I’m not too sure what browser you’re using, but we ran into this with a Chrome user. Are you using Chrome?
The link works fine with other browsers – so if you’re using Chrome, I suppose it’s more of an issue of a certain search engine company providing you with a browser is giving you a 404, not the provider of the “internet” itself.

    ;-)

    Cheers,
    -Matt

  4. Hi Don, I use Firefox and never had a problem before. I cleared my cache and restarted. I got the same error. It’s coming from your webserver. I pasted the error below. It’s not a big deal. Not sure though why its doing it.

The requested URL /www.ptpanama.com was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

  5. OK. Problem solved. Now why it worked under Safari, i do not know. While the HTML looked good it was missing a / and WordPress was getting confused. It should work on all browsers now.

    Thanks for following up Mike.
