New U.S. Counsel to Visit Chiriquí January 13, 2012

The U.S. Embassy asked if I could estimate the headcount of the number of people that would be attending. If you would drop me an email at donraycc @ gmail . com, (remove the spaces) I will send them the head count. The U.S. Embassy announcement follows:

Our new U.S. Consul General, Mr. Kent Brokenshire, will be in Chiriquí to introduce himself to U.S. citizens in the area. He very much hopes to meet all of you, and will follow the schedule outlined below.

Friday, January 13, 2012  – DAVID

David, Hotel Nacional, Salon Boquete – (located at 1st St Central)

from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Friday, January 13, 2012  – BOQUETE

Boquete, Biblioteca Publica de Boquete (Boquete Public Library – brand new building half a block south of the Hotel Fundadores at 11th of April Avenue, Boquete)

from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

These meetings are primarily to introduce our new Consul General. No Consular services will be provided.

Cable and Wireless – Plaza El Terronal

I had received a flyer and some emails from C&W indicating that they had a new offering that included 190 channels of TV, 3 MB of Internet transfer speed and all calls in Panama on the telephone without charge for a package price of around $32.

Yesterday I thought I would go to the C&W store and get more information. I entered the store and there were two employees sitting in front of computer monitors. They made no effort to welcome me to the store, ask if they could help me or do anything to give me any impression that they were interested in assisting a customer. There were no other customers in the store.

Finally, I went to one and asked for the package prices of TV, Internet and telephone in Terronal. I was told they only had Internet and TV at this point. I knew that wasn’t true, because I had just talked to a neighbor that had their service and was using all three catagories. Continue reading →
