Problem with Social Security Deposits Ouside the US

I was contacted via email the other day by a person that had just found that her social security deposit in Panama had been put on hold and needed to contact the US Embassy in Panama City. I don’t understand all of the particulars, but a followup response from the Federal Benefits Unit in Panama City said that 170 beneficiaries had their social security suspended from their benefits.

A form OMB No. 0960-0051 had been requested by the Social Security Administration and the notice had not been received in Panama by the person whose benefits had been suspended.

Toy Followup

Back in November, I wrote about a new toy I had picked up, a dual SIM cell phone. I have had it long enough that I thought I should provide a followup review.

The good is that it does accept two sims so you can have two providers or two different numbers. If you don’t have a real need for that, then I would not buy the phone. Having a TV was a novelty, but in practice, it isn’t worth much. You pickup local stations and for some it might be good in an emergency, but it is not anything I would pay for.

I did find one thing I just can’t live with. I use my cell as my primary phone. Every now and then I need to call a business in the US and it is normal for the system to ask for you to enter information to get to the right company location. When the call connects, the number keyboard display disappears and I have yet to figure out how to get it back.

I am in the process of looking for another phone. This time I will stick with a name brand. I bought that one on a lark and it was a mistake. Since I had favorable impressions when I first bought it, I thought I should update my previous post so that no one else will make the same mistake.

Let Them Eat Cake

I am finally getting around to posting the photo above. We had some friends over to watch the SuperBowl game on Sunday night and I have been promising to bake something so long that most had decided I had forgotten how.

I will have to admit, I almost have. The Pecan Prailine Cheesecake above, didn’t come out as pretty as I had wanted, but the flavor was not bad. In Texas, we would have had a huge spread for Super Bowl Sunday, but whether anyone believes it or not, I eat a lot less now.

Instead we had some Pizza from Popeye’s Pizza (I still think this is the best Pizza in Chiriquí), a small bowl of chips during the game and topped it off with cheesecake.

Great game, good friends to enjoy it with and full tummies. It just doesn’t get any better than this.
