I gassed up Big Mo (our Chevrolet Suburban) today and saved $6.20, which is almost enough for a case of pintas at the Chino’s.

Hello folks. This is my first time on the web. I am researching Panama and looking to live there. A resident from David responded to an inquiry I had about a home for sale and suggested I visit this website.

Of course the gas just went up again in Ohio so when I saw the comments about the cost of gas in Panama that raised my interest.

Would any of you care to comment about gas prices and having automobiles in Panama? Is it necessary or is public transportation an option? Just trying to gather information in all areas of living…utilities, places to live that are safe for single women and general info about maintaining a car in Panama. Thank you.

Hi Sharron. I guess whether you have to have a car is sort of preference and can be based on where you live. I know several people that have lived in Panama for a long time and get by on taxis and buses. The bus service covers just about everywhere and is reasonably priced. I live in David and can get to almost everywhere in a short time and distance, so the gas price fluctuation doesn’t affect me much.

Electricity is high in Panama, so a large amount of usage can cost. I use the AC very little and get by with fans. My electricity bill is around $50 wint no AC to $90 if I have had several haot days and was using the AC.
