Curious

Posted by Don Ray on Dec 03 2009 at 10:23 am

I have been meaning to take this photo for several days. There is a coconut tree on a street near me. I have been noticing that some of the hanging coconuts had holes in them. Today I remembered to take the photo, but when I walked to the tree all of the coconuts had fallen.

Here is a photo of one of the coconuts that was in the tree. Remember, it was hanging with the rest of the bunch of coconuts. Can you guess how the hole got in the coconut way up in the tree?

Squirrels run up the tree and open the coconut and drink the pipa. Interesting huh! Well, I thought so anyway.

There are black squirrels that are a nightmare because they leave a lot of trash in yards, its only remedy is to completely remove this plague felled coconut trees, squirrels because they are not good, they bring many diseases as rats.

At my house in Bocas del Toro, I have a Coconut tree that is in front my house and I will sit a watch TV, and there will be this funny sound, when I look out there was this Woodpeeker, making a hole on the coconut and eating and Drinking the water…..

I was reading an article about animals in Boquete –the animal was listed as “coiti”–with the statement the local name is “goto solo”.

I have never seen one before — where can I find a picture?

    Thanks!!!
