Why is abbreviation such a long word?

I know we don’t normally comment on the one-liners, but:
mnemonic – you need one to remember how to spell it! lisp – just telling people you have it is proof! monosyllabic – could this have any more syllables?

Don Ray: What about already, this in Spanish is “ya”. and yet in Spanish is “todavia”. I have always been confused by these two. Jaime^
“ya” is a very powerful word in Spanish. Seems like it can be used in almost any situation.
