Mosto Bistro November Special Menu
I received a notice that Mosto Bistro was having some special food this month that was said to be gourmet versions of typical Panamanian food.
Saturday, we stopped by Mosto Bistro for lunch to see what gourmet Panamanian really was.
Following will be photos of the meal.
We started off with four slices of bread in balsamic vinegar and oil. You have this while you are waiting and the bread is better than typical bread served in restaurants.

We then had a chicken crepe. I really doubt that it was typical Panamanian, but I do know it was outstanding. We shared one and afterward we were wishing we had ordered more. The sauce was to die for.

The main course was a beef fillet that was cooked with a tomato, onion and pepper sauce. It came with either rice with guandu and cheese or with otoe.
I had the fillet with otoe. The beef was very good and I enjoyed the sauce. The otoe was a pure and similar to potatoes. I still prefer potatoes. I enjoyed my choice very much.

Another ordered the fillet with the rice. This meal got a two thumbs up. I didn’t do a good job on this photo and the rice is hidden. It was in the bottom of a coconut shell.

If I go to Mosto, I have to order the dessert. The special was a fresh fruit including maracuya, and strawberry with a little white farmer’s cheese.

So far, I have not been disappointed with anything I have ordered at Mostos Bistro. This is definitely not one of the less expensive restaurants in David, but I have not found any others that do as good a job with the presentation and the taste is always spectacular.
If you drop by Mosto Bistro, tell them you read about them on Chiriquí Chatter.

Is a “crape” the Panamanian version of the French crepe?
No it was an error. Don’t know why spell check didn’t catch that one. Thanks for finding the error.
Don Ray,
Great write up of a great restaurant – they do have one of or the best steaks in town. And now a pat on the back (or the belly?) – When we last ate there a few weeks back the owner said that EVERYONE who had come in that day was because they read about his restaurant on your site! And while we were there a nice fellow made reservations for later on and said it was because of you as well! Way to go, Don Ray! Joe and Nancy of Dolega
Wow. I haven’t been in David since 2001 (my family and I used to go Bambito and Boquete a lot), and it looks like the place is getting more sophisticated…
Hi Joe and Nancy. I am happy that you enjoyed the restaurant. It is good to know that others and not just me are getting good food there.
Hi Tambopaxi. This it as sophisticated as it gets in David, but they keep the atmosphere casual with nice jazz playing in the background.
Hi Don,
We stopped by the restaurant a couple of weeks ago on your recommendation and enjoyed it. We got a big smile from the Owners when we mentioned your name! Not to nitpick, but… my three courses (delicious mushroom soup, spicy chicken entree and cheesecake for dessert) all came with a large pile of “mystery twigs” on top. I’m all for presentation, but chewing on fiber strands of unknown orgin with the soup (and dessert) is a little much. Glad to see they found some “alternatives” in your photos.
Hi Dan. No, my steak had the plastic like decoration as well. I give demerits for that as well. In the past all was eatable. You have a very good point. I would prefer no presentation rather than the plastic stuff.
hi don ray, thanks for you support, but i need to tell you something, the decoration dont was a plastic thing, its a rice noodles, i will never use plastic decoration in my dishes.
Hi Mosto. I had thought at first it must be rice noodles, but mine were so tough that I couldn’t eat them. It must have been similar to what Dan had found above. Maybe you don’t eat those rice noodles.
I stand corrected on it being plastic, however it had the texture of plastic and I could not eat them. They were a lot different that the ones in the following post.
