If the Door Is Open
Nov 14th, 2009 by Don Ray
I have tried an experiment. With the bananas always being searched out, I wondered if the birds would enter the bird cage if the door was open. I put in some banana and papaya and waited. There birds entered.
I closed the door and so I could take some photos.
They really didn’t cooperate well when I went to take photos. The following bird was the prettiest of the three birds.

This was another blue bird. It was larger and lighter in color.

This photo has the third bird on the left. It was a large brown bird and not bery pretty. The bird on the right was the same bird that was in the first photo.

After I had the photos, I opened the door and released the birds who all now had full tummies.

Don Ray:
I used to call them Azulejo (the large light blue one) and Casca (brown). No idea the small one.
Jaime^
Hi Jaime. I have a couple more that are visiting, but I haven’t been able to capture them. One is a pretty green and the other is red.
Al “red” le llaman “sangre de toro”… ¡Feliz día!
Hi AS. I hope to get a photo of one someday.
Hola Don Ray,
The first is a Red-legged Honey Creeper, the second is a Blue-gray Tanager and the last one (brown) looks like a Clay-coloured Thrush.
All three (plus many others) are in our Bird House and around the property at Paradise Gardens in Boquete.
Keep up the good work.
Saludos, Mark
Hi Mark. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Glad to see that Paradise Gardens is still doing well.
