Cinta Costera de Panama City

On my trip to Panama City, I took a cab from the Albrook Mall to San Francisco. The cab driver used the new Cinta Costera, which was under construction on my last trip in December of 2008.

This new double decked expressway opened a week before my trip. The drive from Albrook Mall to San Francisco took about a third of the time it would have taken driving any other way.

I probably should have taken more photos this time, but I just didn’t think about it until we were about ready to exit the Cinta Costera. This is a very nice improvement for Panama City. I have heard that they made some mistakes, but I don’t know what they are. To me it was the best ride I have ever had on Panama City streets.

  1. Don,
That’s about the best road I’ve ever seen in the entire country. Looks like alot of improvements have been taking place since I left?

  2. Hi Bob. It impressed me. I also am a little surprised that from the photos I took in December of 2008 to now, they were able to finish it.

  3. Don Ray:
Thanks for the picture. You can find a lot of videos on you tube now of the Cinta Costera. It seems last weekend they were not enough trash cans and after the inauguration the place was a mess. It seems solved now. What is your opinion on the construction in general, I mean the parks, water fountains, walk ways, bike ways, etc?

  4. Hi Jamie. Sorry, but I didn’t get to see any of the items you asked about. I went to the hospital for the checkup and did very little els. I did take a mall one evening, but that was it.

  5. Let’s hope that the mistakes they made weren’t like the one they made over in Spain near Torremolinos…they banked a curve in the road in the wrong direction so eighteen wheelers taking the turn often fall on their sides.
