Yea this is good, the Gringos want the people of Boquete to stop having the flower and coffee festival because the music and fireworks are to loud but the Gringos should be able to have 4 th of July party that has nothing to do with Panama culture, If I was a Panamainian I would say go home unless you want to live here and respect our way of life. It is to bad that these people are so foregiving and allow you to try to change there culture. You should be gratefull that they allowed you to live in there country and should abide by there believes. Do you see them walking around in shorts, no because it is not acceptable, you are not allowed in a government building or bank in shorts. So why do you have to push there buttons, because you are Americans you CAN. I hope YOU ALL have a great 4th of July and also I hope a local shoves a piece of fireworks up your ASS to help you celabrate. Have a great 4 th of July.
Just to be clear Glen, I am not the one promoting US holidays here in Panama. I personally am not in favor of it. I prefer recognizing the holidays of the country with the citizens of Panama, but I do allow these announcements to be published because some people are interested.
I was not meaning to come down on you, I really enjoy your site and all the informative things you have to offer. I think it is great that you take the time to inform us of where to dine, where to stay and what have you. What bothers me is all the people that have nothing but negative things to say about such a great country. I came here for the adventure and the resonable cost of living and I have not been let down yet. Just when you are sure you have seen it all something new pops up.
I think we are very lucky that these people have allowed us to come to this country and accepted us the way we are. They are always appologi sing that there English is not that good. I tell them that it is not up to them to learn English, it is up to me as a guest in there country to learn Spanish.
What gives us the right to try and change there way of life, I know that in the USA you have a song that strongly suggests that if you want to live in this country you must spesk English, so why the double variable.
You are in this country, do like the Romans do. I really think it is a slap in the face that you display your USA licence plates and want to have your 4 th of July party and want to shut down things that are tradition in Panama. Shame on YOU
Hi Samantha. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Any business that operates in Panama would be considered a Panamanian business. I believe you mean to say that they are Panamanian owned and operated?? Am I correct.
There is no ulterior motive for this Celebration, other than to have some good times with good friends. No one is trying to take away Panamanian Culture.
I believe that Cinco de Mayo is widely Celebrated here in Panama. That is not a Panamanian Holiday either!
I see Glen’s point, but I think the 4th of July celebrations are, for the most part, hosted by Panamanian-owned businesses to cater to Americans, who produce a lot of income for them. So, to a considerable degree, it’s a form of advertising.
In the U.S. all sorts of foreign holidays are celebrated to one degree or another. Cinco de Mayo is big in most of the states with legal and illegal Mexican immigrants.
Most people form strong attachments to their native lands, and I’m no exception. But it’s difficult for me to get a big thrill out of celebrating the 4th of July because of the many despicable things the U.S. has done in so many countries around the world, including many in Central America.

Well, this shows the wisdom of the old English refrain “horses for courses”.
Can’t please all of the people all of the time.

I’m with Glen!

Hi Don,
Yes Panamanian Owned and Operated.
There is no ulterior motive for this Celebration, other than to have some good times with good friends. No one is trying to take away Panamanian Culture.

Its just a “Theme” for a PARTY.
