Criminal Activity in Decameron
Jun 20th, 2009 by Don Ray
I received an email of criminal activity in Decameron and felt it was important to share. I asked the person that sent it to me to edit it so that private information was removed. Below is an English and Spanish version.
Dear Don Ray,
In an effort to warn you, without promoting panic, I feel compelled to share this information.
This happened to a young Panamanian man who was in the Decameron Hotel last week. Following a meeting sponsored by the company where he works, he decided to go to the hotel casino while his coworkers went to bed. Later, on leaving the casino, he was stopped by three individuals who asked him to give them the “pin” of his company which of course, he doesn´t know. Therefore, he gave them the pin of his own card.
Next, the young man was grabbed, beaten, kicked, tied and taken as a hostage to a lonely, unidentified spot on the plains beyond Rio Hato.
The criminals insisted and insisted on the pin number of the company, until the hostage heard a guy shouting the others. “Kill him then!”
The hostage somehow managed to untie himself, so he jumped out of the car and started running so fast that the maleantes couldn´t reach him with their shoots. When the hostage reached a cliff, he desperately jumped and, thanks to the Lord, he fell on a river where he started swimming without knowing where until he realized the criminals had left. Then, he went out of the river and walked for about an hour until he reached a house where he was given assistance and taken back to the Decameron to join his coworkers.
Needless to say, we should be extremely cautious.
Here is the version for Spanish readers.
Estimados amigos:

Sounds to me like somebody has been watching too many fast and furious films
Hi Bob. Sounds like to me that people should not take safety in Decameron as a sure thing. And this was a Panamanian and not a gringo.
Actually, the M.O. sounds vaguely familiar. Less than a year ago, a neighbor of mine (not gringo) was leaving her office in David at around 7PM and after getting into her Toyota Hilux, was approached by several men who forced her from the wheel, tied, gagged and blindfolded her and lay her down on the back floor of the truck. They drove for about an hour to an isolated place and kept her there for 8 hours, while threatening to kill her. Finally, at about 2 in the morning, they took her shoes off and just let her go to wander aimlessly where she had now idea where she was. A horribly frightening experience!
Best to be alert these days.
