Staying Busy
I have been busy working on the new PC. After a shaky start, it is running like a champ.
I am actually happy that I resolved the Microsoft Vista problems and re-installed it. I have applied all maintenance through SP2 and it is running very well. I must say that I like it better than I did Windows XP.
Maybe it is because I have weened myself off of Windows XP in favor of Linux. Maybe it is because the new PC has enough power to handle Vista’s requirements. Maybe it is because I get bored and wanted a new challenge.
Whatever the reason, I have no current complaints. I have removed all the bloat from the PC. I removed the trial version of Office 2007 and replaced it with Open Office. I do like the Media Center. All of my peripherals were found and recognized without any driver problems.
Since I had become used to a messenger that was capable of communicating with multiple protocols, I had to search for one that worked on Vista. I found Voxox, which is performing well. I replaced Kontact, which was my email manager and calendar with Thunderbird. While I have moved all of my contact information, I was unable to move my emails.
All files have been backed up and copied to Vista. I will keep My Linux systems current and they will be my backup in case of problems. I also plan on using my backup PC to continue to continue with my Linux projects. However, for the present, Window’s Vista will be my OS on my production PC. If the cost to upgrade to Windows 7 isn’t prohibitive, I will consider it.
It looks like the sun is coming out and it is shaping up to be a good day. I think I am getting ready to have a visitor in a few minutes, but wanted you to know that I am still keeping busy.

Gracias por tu comentario. Mi español es malo o me escribe en Inglés y Español.
Sorry to see you go back to the dark side, Don Ray.
I bet that new ‘puter would scream with Linux on it. BTW, I’ve finally got Netbook Remix 9.04 installed on my Acer Aspire One. It recognized everything, including wireless right out of the box. No fiddling, no muss. Even Skype, which has been troublesome on some hardware since Ubuntu 8.04 works perfectly.
Henry
Hi Henry, Well, I am not completely on the dark side because I have the PC setup as a dual boot system with Linux tied to the 1TB hard drive.
I still need to do some work with my netbook specifically with SKYPE.
I am sure it is some configuration settings that I haven’t worked out. When I read the Netbook Remix 9.04 documentation, I found that it had several problems with my small ASUS eee, so I stayed with EasyPeasy, which has worked great with the exception of Skype.
When the next release of openSUSE 11.2 comes out, I will install it on the new bad boy and I bet it will run pretty fast.
