In Case You Want To Follow Suit
I received a request to assist a student in a class project in the US. The project was to receive postcards from around the world from Spanish speaking countries. Following was the specification of what was desired.
Dear Mr. Williams,
Frankie and I thank you for your help!
At your convenience, please mail a postcard to:
Srta. Purdy, Class 3-21
Saint James School
830 West Broad Street
Falls Church, VA 22046
USA
If you speak Spanish, would you please write a sentence on the card?
Frank’s 3rd class is studying US geography and each student has mailed ten letters to various states requesting postcards to aid/interest/excite their study. His Spanish teacher has dove-tailed onto this project, having the class mail two letters requesting postcards from Spanish speaking countries.
Thanks, again!
Fondly,
Karen
I went out yesterday and picked up three cards. Hopefully at least one of the three will reach the class. If you happen to reside in another Spanish speaking location, I am sure that Frank, and his class, would be pleased to see more cards. If you do send a card, tell the class you learned of their project from Chiriquí Chatter.
I chose three different cards to send. The first was of Kuna Indians.

The second was of Iglesia del Carmen.

The last was of Cathedral ruins in Old Panama.

I will try to get them mailed today.

Sounds fun. Now if only you knew some Spanish…
Hi Dave. Use the Spanish you know and it will give the class practice in correcting it. That is what I did.
Good selection of cards, Don Ray. The first time I visited the US (1970) I carefully choose many post cards from Panama but I made a mistake: only beautiful girls in polleras, tropical scenery, mountains and native indians. I was so proud showing the cards when someone asked me: Is that the dress ( pollera) you wear in Panama everyday??? How funny!
Hi As. I just hope the get there OK. At least they will know I mailed them and what to expect.
Don Ray,
Thanks again for your support with Frankie’s Spanish class project. I’m sure your postcards will be a big hit among the students.
Best regards,
Monte
Hi Monte. I was happy to do it. I hope they get there in good condition. At least it is documented that they have been mailed. I dropped them off this morning.
Very nice cards Don! I just mailed mine which is of the Feria de las Flores y del Cafe in Boquete.
Lilia
Hi Lilia. That was nice of you. I considered that one also, but I decided my three provided some contrasts.
