I know many of you have noticed that there haven’t been many posts lately. I confess, I have been doing things and spending less time on the PC.
First let me say “thank you” to all of you that took time out of your busy lives to send me emails. Some of you have been concerned about my mental outlook. Some of you merely sent an email to say “hello” and some of you even remembered that yesterday was my 66th birthday. No mater what my schedule is, I always spend the first part of the morning checking all of the news from various sources on the Internet and reading and responding to my email.
Other things that I have been doing fall into the following categories:
- I have assisted a new Panama resident to get herself a little settled in David. She is now settled into her apartment. We spent some time visiting stores so that she could furnish her apartment as well as getting here television, Internet and telephone needs taken care of. She is now actively pursuing her pensionado visa and learning about the Panama “mañana” philosophy first hand. There may be some experiences that she learns that could help others. I will offer to publish any of her thoughts, if she cares to share them.
- I have been visiting Blockbuster lately and hadn’t realized how many movies have come out that I have missed. I enjoy a DVD more than watching the movie in the theater, because I like to watch all of the special features on the DVD. Blockbuster has changed its hours and now is open from 2PM until 10PM with exceptions on weekends. Tuesdays cost $1.50 and other days run $3.00. I guess that $1.80+ at the movie theater may be a better value, but I can’t hit pause and go pee.
- I have pulled out several of my “to be read” books and I am in the middle of “The Street Lawyer” by John Grisham. Like all of Grisham’s books, I am enjoying it. This one is especially good because the beginning is so current. It begins with an event created by a homeless person and the descriptions made me reflect and give thanks for all of the blessings, I receive, that I sometimes forget.
- The last several day’s I have had Susan and Sofia visiting from Panama City. Susan is one of my favorite people and Sofia is just a doll. I think Susan scheduled her trip so that she and Sofia would be here on my birthday. While I received many gifts, the most special gift, for me, was their visit.
- October has lived up to its reputation of the wettest month in the year. After one month of vacation, my maid called on her first day, following vacation, to tell me that her living quarters were flooded and she couldn’t come. The last three days have been exceptionally rainy. I had planned to take Sofia to Paradise Gardens in Boquete to see the animals, but rain prevented the trip. If it was this rainy in David, I can only imagine how much rain Boquete must have gotten.
- I have tried several new Linux installations on my backup PC including the latest Mandriva 2009. In fact I tried two Mandriva 2009 installations. My recommendation is to stay away from the DVD download and stick with the CD version, if you are interested in Mandriva.
- … I am sure that other things will come to mind later, but that should at least let you know that I have been occupied and having fun.
I have a few other items that I have queued up, but I will put them in other posts. At any rate, for those of you that have raised concerns that I might have stopped posting permanently – no such luck. I am just trying to organize my life a little better to handle a few more activities.

I would just like to say Happy Belated Birthday Greetings. I always look forward to reading the information on this blog. It has been very useful to me especially as I still live in the UK, but have a house in Boquete.
Thank you so much for the valid information both from you and others who have contributed.
HOPE YOU HAD A REAL GREAT BIRTHDAY. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK YOUR COLUMN MAKES THE SUN SHINE EVERYTIME I READ IT.
Hi Pearl, Thanks for the kind words.
Caryl. All celebrated birthdays are great. Hopefully, I still have more in the future.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
[Phew, glad I'm not that old; not for a couple of weeks anyhow]
Hi Tom. Well as long as I keep having birthday’s, I will be happy. It is when they stop that you have to worry!
Hi Don:
There was no doubt in my mind you were up to something during your brief hiatus.
Regards,
Omar.-
Hi Omar. I do my best to stay busy. You know what the say about idle minds.
Happy Birthday a day late to my much older cousin! Hope your day was great it had to be better than mine (I worked a double with not much help trying to take care of 36 people). Raining here too over 4 inches in about 24 hours have about 36 more hours predicted. Hope all is well an the birthday didn’t do too much damage to you. Jan
Much older! Hmmm.
I survived. It is always a question, but I think I come from good genes. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I think I can match your monthly rainfall with very little effort.
Take care and hugs to all in Oklahoma.
Hi Don! Glad your back in action!
One question: did something happened to the weather pixie? It hasn’t changed for awhile.
Hope you had a great birthday!
Lilia
Hi Lilia. Thanks for dropping by and taking the time to leave a comment. I think that weather pixie is working, but I will take a look at it. Some times they don get updated information as often as they should.
Congratulations, Don! Glad to hear that it’s just good stuff keeping you busy.
And just to make you fell better, it snowed on the Sandia Mountains right behind us last night.
Mike
Now in New Mexico
Hi Mike. Glad to hear that you have made the move and are there without mishap. Enjoy the snow for me.
