Watch And Weep
Jul 19th, 2008 by Don Ray
I guess today was my day to watch videos on the Internet. Below is a link to a Google video that I think is important.
Today, when the world is crying about not having eco-friendly cars and also about the dependency on foreign oil, it makes you want to cry when you see that the technology has been there and bad judgment is the reason that it isn’t in your hands to day. This is a 90 minute video, but it is worth watching.
After watching it, maybe it is worth sending the link to your congressman and asking him what he has done for you lately besides sleeping on the job.

Hi Don:
What a coincidence, I just watched the documentary on the EV1 by GM and was greatly impressed and saddened on the tragedy of this fuel efficient electric car.
I’m also going to post about it. It should be seen by everybody, now that oil prices are going through the roof.
Regards,
Omar.-
Hi Omar. I remember the EV1 and always wondered what happened to it. Now I know.
Although most of that fine video deals with General Motors EV1, most experts agree that the most successful all electric vehicle produced to date is the Toyota Rav4 EV. Toyota & it’s business partners were able to tweak & improve upon the NiMH battery technology used in the EV1. Unlike the EV1, some of the Toyota models were actually sold to the public & many are still on the road after many years & thousands of miles. Unfortunately, production was stopped after a lawsuit challenged Toyota’s right to use the battery in it’s cars & production rights are now controlled by a subsidiary of Chevron.
Check out this all electric beauty:

Hi Gordo. Thanks for dropping in and leaving a comment.
I too have seen this video several times over the last few years and found the “reason for it’s demise” to be the patents on the battery and the costly suits. You can read more about the batteries here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cobasys.

Hi Rick. Thanks for dropping in and adding to the post with your comment.
Don’t know if you know about this yet. T. Boone Pickens has begun an alternative energy plan and campaign. He’s started running ads on U.S. TV re: his plan, which he’s just begun to launch. He also has a website called PickensPlan that delineates his plan in detail. I’d be happy to send you the URL, although, am sure you’ll find it on your own in a blink.
It’s great to hear a lifelong oil man who’s taking alternative action.
Having been employed by, and involved with, the environmental movement since the mid-seventies, I too weep in stunned despair at what we humans have done, and the glacial pace at which “progress” is made. The glaciers themselves are melting faster.
Anyway, it’s good to know that there are indeed people out there with the money and clout who are passionate about the future and sustainability.
Best, Charloe
Yes I know. I have the Pickens plan on the right sidebar.
Guess I’d better pay more attention to the sidebar!
