A Morning With Hal
Jul 16th, 2008 by Don Ray
I had some books to return to BookMark today, and I got to spend some time with Hal. I learned that tomorrow is a special day. Hal will celebrate having spent one more year on this Earth tomorrow. If you are in the area, stop in say, “Happy Birthday”. I will let Hal’s age remain a mystery, but it has been said that I am older than dirt, and Hal is older than me.
Hal told me that he is in need of current books. The BookMark is a good place to trade in your books, if you want to make them available to a large community of readers. I have to get busy, as I have several of Hal’s books and I need to get them read. One of them, I had Hal order for me. It was a Michael Crichton book and Crichton is one of the authors that he is running low on.
Hal has recently picked up a fair amount of books on bananas. The following photo show a few of them. If you are interested in bananas, peal off a couple.

If you have some extra time to spare, Hal has some interesting stories to hear. His experience with his bout with cancer, and using the social security health care of Panama, is really a story that should be shared. I always enjoy getting to spend some time with Hal. My life has definitely been richer for having been able to get to know him.
Happy Birthday (tomorrow) Hal.

Hi Don,
Thanks for the link; I emailed Hal and wished him a happy birthday.
You’re right; he is a very interesting guy. Last January, I took the bus to Dolega twice and bought a dozen books, trading some in on the 2nd visit.
One of the books I traded in was “The Banana Wars”. Interesting and informative book, and the copy in the pic might even be the one I read. If so, it might, perhaps, have a small drop of the excellent Don Abuello on it, but otherwise is in fine shape, and well worth reading.
