Two For One

Saturday was my day for eating out. I was in in the Concepcion area at lunch time and the best place, that I know of in that area, is Sol de Mar. If you are on the Interamerican Highway, going toward Costa Rica, you will find Sol de Mar on the right side of the road, just as you leave Concepcion.

I have a hard time ordering anything other than the fried shrimp. I like the batter they use and I have always enjoyed my meal there. For $5.50 the shrimp plate is hard to beat.

Of course if you prefer fish the Pargo fillet (snapper) for $5.00 is another item I can recommend.

Then Saturday evening, I had an invitation to join some friends at the new Barnard’s restaurant. You will find this restaurant on the street that passes to the right of Romero’s in Dolegita heading toward the Iberia hotel.

There is dining inside.

There is also a nice covered terrace, if you prefer to sit outside.

Two in our party ordered a chicken salad and they enjoyed them. Another has an appetizer plate containing shrimp and it also was liked. I didn’t take photos, because I hate to drool while I am taking photos over people shoulders.

I had a cheeseburger.

I also couldn’t pass up a little of the flan de la casa. Yum. I had a scoop of chocolate ice cream placed on the side.

As you can see, I spent my Saturday eating and you got a two for one post about food. If you go to either of these restaurants, tell them you heard about them on Chiriquí Chatter.

  1. Hahaha. I have to admit, I am about 7 pounds heavier than I would like. I was 230 in the US. Move here weighing 180 and now am up to 187, so your point is well taken.

  2. Hi Don,

Don’t worry about a few pounds. There will be plenty of time to diet when you’re dead. Typing this I now realize you can’t spell “diet” without “die”. I rest my case.

    Eat, drink and be merry.

  3. Hi Don,
What are the prices like at Bernards?
I drove by the other day, and noticed the sign (Fine Dining all in English) and wondered if the prices were “gringo” prices.

And, what else is on the menu? Chicken salad and cheeseburgers won’t get me to come in.

  4. Never liked the place. Stopped several times, bad attitude, will not fry fish, slow service, etc. Once I got 1/2 raw fish.

  5. Hi Bob. There were two restaurant’s listed above. I have to assume that you were talking about Barnard’s, since I know that Sol de Mar fries fish. However, I thought that Barnard’s did too and it hasn’t been open long enough for many to have eaten there many times.

Are you sure you sure you know what you are talking about?
