Once again a trip to David FORCED us to lunch at Renegado!! What a treat it always is. Yesterday, we were FORCED by David to try Bertha's paella arroz negro. It was incredible - unlike most paellas that are served in other restaurants, this one is a Catalonian recipe (just so happens that David is from Catalonia). It was artfully presented (in Bertha's usual creative way) in a true paella pan, sizzling, and served with traditional garlic aioli (which was whipped so it was light and not sludgy and mayonnaisey like most). I have to tell you that for me to give up Bertha's osso buco for almost anything else I have to be FORCED into it. But David was right - it was fantastico! Otra vez, Bertha: Muchas Gracias!
He also FORCED us to try a chilled white Spanish wine with it (since he knows how much we like our muy frio Balboas), and we had to agree, it did a much better job of enhancing the flavor of the paella.
For those of you reading this who haven't FORCED yourselves to try the Renegado, please do: The Culinary FORCE of Peru and Spain will definitely be with you - and FORCE you to return.....!

P.S. Renegado will be doing a Barbacoa con Musica on Friday night May 30 from 9:00 to midnight. David assures me it will be a very special evening.

We keep going back because:
- David & Bertha are the consummate hosts
- The food is exceptional - in the preparation and presentation
- The restaurant and accommodations are spotless
- The menu is fairly priced
- The cerveza is the coldest in Chiriqui
- The other customers seem to enjoy the food and ambience as much as we do
- David & Bertha......wonderful and winning combination!!
