Sofia’s Virus Returns
Apr 9th, 2008 by Don Ray
It appears that Sofia’s virus has returned. It has been seven days since out last trip to the hospital and we are getting ready to return. She has been fine for at least 5 days.
I heard that four children in Bocas had died from what sounds like a similar virus. Vomiting, diarrhea.
If you are in this area, this seems to be something that is going around and should not be taken lightly. Don’t try to cure it with home remedies, go to a doctor (they are cheap).
I had it and it is no fun.
UPDATE: I am about to come to the conclusion that there was really nothing wrong yesterday with Sofia. Her mother was planing on going to Costa Rica yesterday and had told her the night before. Sofia did not want her to go and kept telling her not to go.
I am beginning to think that this child realized if she appeared sick, then her mother would not go. When the doctor saw her and examined her stomach, he said he could find no indication that she had anything. Magically she was well upon returning home. Hmmmmmm.

Hi Don:
The problem is Bocas del Toro is that they found human fecal matter in the drinking water supplied by IDAAN. Four Gnobe-Buglé children have died and hundreds are suffering from fever and diarrhea. Natives of Bocas del Toro are buying bottled water or boiling the drinking water to kills any potential bacteria.
You suggestions of visiting a doctor is a good one.

Omar.-
Hello! Not necessarily cheap. In many instances, we a need a specialist and have to pay much more than 5 dollars, but you will get high quality medicines and prompt recovery. You may check your mail. Hope Sofia gets well very soon. You are right, that condition should not be taken lighly.
Regards,
Poor Sofia!! Carson has also been vomiting for the past 2 days and it breaks your heart to see them suffer like that. We are praying for a quick recovery for Sofia. Please keep us posted on how she is doing!
Hi All. Sofia isn’t nearly as sick as she was the last time. After returning from the doctor, she is running around like nothing is wrong. But isn’t that the way kids are. She has no fever, and with no fever, my concern is always lowered. When they have fever is when I panic. The doctor did say they are testing the water here as well and recommended drinking bottled water for a while.
Something is happening, Kim. I may suspect we can blame global warming. I know of 4 people ( out of as group of 9) who attended a convention in Central America, and as soon as they landed back in Panama City they had to be rushed to ER´s, with the same symptoms. I´ll add Carson in my prayers. Dehydration is a key factor, you know. I am not a mom, but a dear auntie of lovely kids so I can understand you.

hilda
Our prayers are with you. God willing she will be fine. Such a sweet young thing. We all pray for a speedy recovery. It’s too unreal to see a little innocent fall ill to anything that we could have prevented if the planet was more responsible. It’s horrifying in the extreme for such a beautiful little soul to get so ill It’s a shame we don’t make the planet more pristine than it was before we arrived as a matter of course, We humans are rather cavalier with our Planet. I hope we become better stewards of our Home. Many Prayers to Sofia and us all.
She is doing better. In fact, you can’t tell she was sick this morning.
Damm global warming… we should all pray for an Ice Age.
Pat
Ah. Finally an explanation.
