It has been a while since I took photos of the David Saturday morning Farmer’s Market, and some folks don’t make it to the archives. Therefore, I will do it again.
First let me tell you how to get there.
If you are on the street that runs by Hotel Gran Nacional, the fire department and the Municipal building, you are close. The market is on the street behind the Municipal building. and fire department.
I got there about 7:30 this morning. You will get the better produce if you get there early. As you can see from this photo, the little shops are pretty full.

There will be several temporary tent stores and some just sell from their trucks.

The watermelons were $1 each.

There will be potted flowers and other plants.

Here is a table of typical Panamanian cakes and cookies.

On the right of this table and below in the blue container is “raspadura de caña”. This is sugar cane sugar and makes the best pancake syrup you will ever taste. A bag of two round chunks cost 25 cents. To read a little more about this product, visit my friend Melissa’s Blog (The Cooking Diva)

Want some fresh butchered meat. It is here too.

Any type of bean you would want.

Here are some tomatoes, peppers, garlic and other items.

Need a fryer or some sancocho. Here are some chickens.

To get what you want, you have to merge with the crowd and pick what you want. This must be the best place in David to get produce, because I see Señorita Lucy is here.

Here are some bags of raspberries. These are good for making fruit drinks in a blender.

This is the David Public Library. It is another landmark you can use for the market.

Here is another truck of items to be sold. Notice the calabasa (squash) that is cut. You decide how much you want and they will slice it off for you.

You can also pick up cilantro here. Each little group is 10 cents.

Corn is not one of the better vegetables in Panama. It is ok in soups, but in my opinion about worthless for anything else. I by my corn frozen in PriceSmart.

Here are pineapples. Today they were 25 cents each..

And if you need to spice up your cooking, here are some more peppers.

Here are some green and mature coconuts. The green is used for agua de pipa or coconut water. Good to clean out your kidneys.

I bought a ton of food, as I have guests coming. My total bill was about $17. The worst part was carrying it to the car and to the house. ![]()

Truly a land of milk and honey. Can’t think of a better place to live.
When it comes to fresh food, it is hard to beat.
Kim and I will need to go there when we return in May. I have driven by it but have never stopped. Looks like there is something for everyone!
Yes, it is the best place to go to buy fresh vegetables. I always enjoy it.
