Obviously Something I don’t Understand.

I am now running Linux Mint on my AMD 64-bit dual core PC. I am really enjoying the change.
Linux Mint is built off the 32 bit UBUNTU system and should not take advantage of my AMD’s dual CPUs.
However, I have noticed that the system Monitor (Screen Shot above) is displaying activity on both CPUs. Any of you Linux Gurus have an explanation about what is going on. Is it still running dual CPUs, but in a 32 bit mode?
Oh, yes, I did finish my taxes. Just have to mail them at the post office tomorrow.

Don,
I have both 64bit laptop and desktop systems, I played at using the 64bit Ubuntu and have returned to using the 32 bit version. Can tell no real speed difference but 32 bit is more stable and needs less tweeking to keep it running. Both of my machines are dual core and both cores function so why and how…..I don’t have a clue or care. I’m in your age group so some of this I just take as it is and don’t worry so much about why and how………………less problems with no real loss in speed=feliz en mi casa

Hi D4H,
After doing a little more research and talking on some of the IRC channels, I was told that the only gain for 64bit would come if I was running more than 4 gig of memory.
That being the case, I am just as well off with the 32bit and as you say, it does seem to be more stable, but I will need a little more time to tell that for sure.
The fact I don’t have to fool with dual libraries to have some software run, was enough of a motivator for me.
I also am very pleased with the Linux Mint efforts to improve the desktop. I am getting all the benefits of having UBUNTU with the added benefit of a cleaner desktop. I am a happy camper.
