Vibraciones musicales entre amigos at Viaje Crisol
Feb 25th, 2008 by Don Ray
If you ever get an invitation to go to one of Señorita Lucy’s / Viajes Crisol’s special happenings, don’t miss it. I returned from Costa Rica on the 17th in time to attend an event that Señorita Lucy held that she called “Vibraciones musicales entre amigos”.The thing I really enjoy, about these functions, is that they provide you a glimpse into the culture of Panama and especially Chiriquí. On this evening there were several groups that performed, both in English and Spanish, renditions of American standards and Chiriquí folkloric music. This combined with Señorita Lucy’s effervescence, provided for one exciting evening.
This photo is Señorita Lucy describing the evening’s agenda and thanking everyone for coming in spite of some inhospitable rain.

This is a photo of the first group that sang. I thought they were extremely good. The two ladies and the gentleman playing the guitar are the De Roux family (Ricio, Ruth and Santiago). The gentleman in the red shirt is Roberto Barrìa.

Following are two videos that I took with my small Canon. I apologize for the quality, but it will give you an idea.
After the first group finished the stage was moved outside to accommodate the large and growing gathering. There was a presentation made by Josè D. Montenegro, the director of the Intituto De Arte Y Cultura (INAC) giving an award to Manuel Salvador Arjona (better known as Don Lito Arjona, El Cañonero). He was celebrating his 79th birthday. The following photo is the award presentation.

The video of the second group that sang and played instrument in the outdoor setting, didn’t turn out well. They were also an interesting group and features a 7 year old that accompanied on the piano.I did capture a video of the third group, which featured singing that I understand originated in Colon, Panama. Besides, the singing, you will see Don Lito Arjona, strutting his stuff. Just goes to show you, if you keep dancing to Panamanian music, you will keep plenty of bounce in your step for many years!
The evening also included several drawings for tickets on the new TACA connection that is now available in David. I projected as positive thoughts as I could as each card was drawn, but my name wasn’t called. Maybe I will have better luck next time.Hope you enjoyed the evening
