La Chaza del Manglar – Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica
Feb 22nd, 2008 by Don Ray
Hidden in this lush area in the town of Puerto Jimenez, is La Chaza del Manglar.

When you enter you will come to the reception area which also contains the restaurant.

To the right of the reception area is this beautiful setting.

We have a going to take a little tour of the area. We will go this way.

I don’t know what this hanging fruit is, but it is the size of two softballs, side by side.

Here are some of the rental areas.

Follow me across this wooden walkway.

Is this paradise or what?

Here is another bungalow. All were occupied, or I would have taken photos inside.

There is nothing like a little hammock siesta to rekindle the energies.

This has been our guide through the resort. Her name is Shirlyn and she is the daughter of my host while I was in Costa Rica.

Dear Don:
I believe the name of the fruit is “calabaza” , at least that is the name I knew it when I was living in Panama. It’s kind of similar to a pumpkin. You do not eat it, but you clean the inside and then put it to dry. The outside becomes then hard and brown, can be painted, then use as a cup to drink, a bowl to eat, or to make beatiful handcrafts (lamps, decorations, etc)
Enjoying your pictures. Keep them coming.

Hi Jamie. Thanks for taking the time to comment and answering the question.
Lovely pictures. Thanks so much for sharing. We love Costa Rica, except for the convoluted process of getting visas, cost of bringing in household goods and car, etc. Costa Rica was our first exploration, three years ago, when deciding on our move to Central America.
Have you been to Cahuita in the Caribbean? We loved it. Never wanted to leave. Stayed at the Alby Lodge, just abutting the National reserve. A fantastic place. Howlers’ lionean roars echoing through the jungle at 4:45am. Amazing. (maybe not every day for the rest of your life…or maybe so.) They actually woke up the roosters! Also, the food at each and every small “Soda” in town was muy delicioso.
Thanks also for your excellent information re: what you need in hand documentation-wise, and what the process is like to cross the border from Panama and Costa Rica.
Enjoy your vacation. I’m sure you are. Viva al pura vida.
Charlotte

[...] Now back to the trip. Sharlyn, Carlos and Alba’s daughter, returned from work as we were eating. She accompanied us on our drive back to Rio Claro that afternoon. She amazes me. She works 5 ½ days a week at the La Chaza del Manglar resort. [...]
