Eclipse As Seen From David
Feb 21st, 2008 by Don Ray
I intended to take a photo every 30 minutes throughout the eclipse last night. I think this was somewhere around 8:30 PM.

I think this was around 9:30 PM.

The next time I looked, the sky was devoid of moon or stars. I looked a couple more times and found the same thing. I gave up and went to bed.

Hi Mr. Williams:
I agree: that eclipse was nothing spectacular. We have been celebrating the reactions: “Horrible”! “Por qué me despertaron para ver cosa tan fea?” Well, let´s hope a comet - as beautiful and unexpected as Ikeya Seki- can be seen again. It was wonderful!

hilda
I had hopes as the eclipse began. Then something cloaked the entire sky.
The UK and Ireland missed out too. Our skies were much too overcast to see anything.
That is one thing I am really looking forward to in Panama - the night skies.
I was in St Lucia a few years ago; and it was amazing to see the night sky there. First of all, it was a different sky that i saw (totally different from the stars and galaxies I could see from Ireland). And secondly, the lack of street or city lights, made the stars shine like diamonds. Absolutely beautiful. They made you feel alive. Awesome and inspirational.
I have actually thought about creating a sky room when I build my house in Panama. A builder gave me the idea over here, a few years ago. A room at the top of the house - might be a master bedroom - that has a transparent ceiling (maybe a bubble). As you lie in bed, you can see the universe unfold above you. Now if only I could find someone to build such a thing.
Yes, the skies here in Panama are spectacular to say the least. I had forgotten what stars looked like by living in the city so long in the US.
I love the sound of those spectacular skies!
I lived the first half of my life in rural Ireland. And on a cloudless night, it was so dark, that the milky way was easily visible. If I stayed out for long enough, and my eyes got more acclimatised, it was awesome the detail visible in the sky. And artificial satellites would fly past every so often (America hadn’t taken to shooting down satellites at that point)
Not to get into a political argument, but the satellite that was shot was in the process of reentering the atmosphere. A little different than shooting it down.
my eyes aren’t the best, but it sure looked like it was shot at!
No question that it was shot. It is the intent of shooting that is in question. The difference between aggression and defense so to speak.
My guess is that it was the military wanting to try out their weaponry on such a target. It would be the first time this regime has ever cared about saving a few foreign folks on the ground from one of their bits of equipment. The chance of it ever hitting anyone was extremely remote.
I hope to goodness that China, Russia and America stop such practices.
Don;
I’m sorry that your weather closed in and blocked it out. For once we had perfectly clear skies in Panama City and it was beautiful.
Our apartment building has a large patio / pool area overlooking the bay and we and some visiting guests sat out there in lawn chairs watching the show until enough of the eclipse had passed that the moon’s red color had returned to normal.
The eclipsing moon over the bay was spectacular.
No photos, unfortunately..
