Auto Inspections Have Changed
Feb 20th, 2008 by Don Ray
Today, I took a Honda for service to Tambor (The Honda representative in David).
Following that I went to MARCONELA AUTOSERVICIOS for the annual inspection.
The process was different than last year. Last year you needed the title registration papers and that was it. They took photos and printed your inspection paperwork.
Now they are required to test the lights, inspect the tires, inspect breaks, etc., view proof of insurance and take photos. While I was there I noticed that there were two large trucks having the photos taken and they were required to have a fire extinguisher and road warning triangles in the photo.
I have to say that I am pleased to see a little more rigorous inspection being required now. The price was $26.27, which is higher than it has been in the past.
UPDATE: Based on a received comment, I investigated whether I paid too much or not. The answer was that with the new regulatory changes, the price included all of the extra inspections and they did charge more. My charge was based on a 2007 Honda CRV. Why different makes or models might have different rates, I don’t know.

Don, over the years I’ve seen annual inspections range from ‘everybody gets their wheels aligned’ and “We have to adjust your headlights, Senor” (all at additional cost, of course) to not even having to take the vehicle to the inspection station. I just had one done yesterday morning and they didn’t even check the VIN number, which was the big thing last year. Whatever they are doing today, I can just about guarantee you it will change before next year.
Hi Henry. Thanks for adding the comment. However, you did bust my bubble. I was hoping that this might indicate that they were going to take inspections seriously.
Hi Don: Last week I took my car for inspection at ‘Cooperativa de Servicios Multiples Jose Maria Torrijos, R.L.’ on the Via Interamericana, a Gas station with a hugh sign that says :”Revisado 2008 —>” and was in and out within 15 minutes and the cost was $15.25. (and they did check everything and take pictures).
Patrick
I may need to go ask why they charged so much.
