A Word Of Warning At Carnival Time
Feb 1st, 2008 by Don Ray
I just received an email with the following notice:
Estimados amigos:
My rough translation says that you should expect the see Transit authorities checking all vehicles to verify that several things are in order. Specifically you should have the following valid documentation:
- Current auto tag
- Registration papers for the auto
- The Transit Manual
- Current auto insurance policy
If you are stopped and do not have all of the above in order, you will be fined.

Hi DR - thanks for the heads up. For those of us who have to renew their registrations/placas (and insurance) in January, having current tags is easier said than done… 1. the garages who perform the revisados often don’t get the documents for the new year until the 2nd week of the month or later. 2. the municipio does not get the new placas & stickers until the 2nd week or later OR as in this year, day before yesterday… OR as in this year, not all of the placas were shipped nor enough stickers for all of the placas… and so it goes. So, if you don’t have the current placa/tags, make sure you carry a copy of the “temporary tag” the municipio was issuing.
Hi DSD.
Thanks for the extra information.
