You Make My Day Award
Jan 14th, 2008 by Don Ray
Today, I received the award to the left by one of my favorite readers. I typically don’t get involved in “sent this to 10 people” projects, but this one is a little different.
The award rules say:
Give the award to 10 people whose blogs bring you happiness and inspiration and make you feel happy about blogland. Let them know by posting a comment on their blog so they can pass it on. Beware you may get the award several times.”
I was talking to someone the other day that had retired in David. He said that retirement is a big change for many people. The reason, he said, was because when one goes into retirement, you tend to lose your identity. Prior to retirement, much of identity is tied to your job.
He definitely caused me to think about this and what he said is very true. Much of my identity has now become associated with the Chiriquí Chatter Blog.
Through this medium, I have found many friends all over the world. Each one seems like they are part of my extended family. I can’t tell you how many thoughtful emails I receive, that “Really Make My Day”, so receiving this from an international friend of mine really made my day too.
Blogging or even reading blogs, doesn’t interest everyone, but I have to admit that I get a kick out of it. There are so many intelligent and beautiful people out there and I am happy to call many of them my friends.
Here is my list. Choosing won’t be easy but here goes.
- Leena. Leena lives in Finland and is one of those people that you can tell has a warm and friendly heart. Her photo blog (Only For Photos) will show you the areas around her home and homeland. She has an artist’s eye when she takes photos. She has the distinction of being the only blogger that ever inspired me to create a poem. There is just something about this photo of a Red Headed Miss.
- Abraham Lincoln. Abraham is related to President Lincoln. However, this Abe is talented in his own right. His nature photos are second to none. He and his Canon SLR capture the real beauty of nature. He has written and published books and he also has a blog of the time he spent in Japan. Photos he took then are on display in a Japanese museum. He is also a very impressive artist. His sharing his life with me always makes my day.
- Kim. My daughter has started her own blog and its content keeps me up to date with the comings and goings of her and family. Her daughter, Olivia, reminds me of Dennis the Menace in curls. Kim has her own style of writing, but I would like to think that some of her creativity was inherited.
- Omar. Omar is a Panamanian friend of mine that lives in Panama City. He has a lot of fun staying up with the movement of Internet software. He also scatters in other articles about subjects that have captured his interest. While his primary language is Spanish, he only writes in English and does such a good job, that it really makes me feel language challenged.
- Chef Melissa. While I am on Panama bloggers, let me recommend Melissa (The Cooking Diva). I go to her site to pick up good Latin American recipies. She recognized the world over and an excellent writer. I am pleased to call her a friend.
- Sieg Pedde. Sieg is the consummate blogger. He is one of those people that can write about anything and make it interesting. The topics you will find in his blog may touch on any subject.
- Doc. Monkeymind is the blog of another friend that leaves in Panama. While we really only know each other on the Internet, we seem to bump into each other at the David Airport. He had set his blog up to communicate with his family in the states (I can relate to that). I enjoy reading the creative things he writes.
- Marie. Disarranging Mine is a blog I accidentally stumbled on back in 2003. Marie helped me a lot by suggesting some software to make posting photos easier. I have been a continual visitor to her blog since then.
- Homesick Texan. This is a blog whose title I can relate to. The author of this blog keeps me in touch with the recipes that I miss from Texas. If you want some good TexMex recipes, then drop into her blog.
- Bits and Piecess. Whenever I need something to lighten up my day, I stop into Bits and Pieces. I never go there, that I don’t leave with a smile on my face.
I tune into other blogs, but I can’t list them all. With the exception of Leena, there is no order to this list, but then you know what they say about a red headed miss. ![]()

You are very kind, Don Ray, and I really appreciate your support. It is amazing to me that anyone reads my blog because I write about nothing in particular and everything in general. Thank you!
Thanks Don Ray for the award–that really makes my day!
Sieg and Lisa. You are both welcome.
Hi Don:
I’ll use the best words in the English language: Thank you very much!
Regards,
Omar.-
Thank you Don Ray, you make me still blush with your words
Omar. We all need to use those word more often.
Leena. Blushing is good and even more so when you are a red head!
You mean to say, Don Ray, that there are other blogs?
Seriously, if anyone followed me around on the internet, they would think that yours is the only one. I’ve seen others, but they never hold my attention.
Yes, I am here to tell you there are other blogs. I am afraid mine doesn’t hold a candle to many. However, I appreciate your nice comment.
Don Ray, Thank you so much for your kind words. I needed that.
Way to go Don in recognizing others. Don’t see much of that in the workplace. I don’t think that you bloggers know how much your blogs are enjoyed by us non bloggers. I read your blog every day at zero dark thirty before work. Its a great way to begin the day with a touch of Panama
Hi Marie and Mike.
We always need a few nice words or a pat on the back. I was lucky enough to get that growing up and in the early days of the work place as well. Later days the work place changed and became too focused on P&L and to little on the individual.
I am glad I am out of that rat race,
