Annual Ngäbe Buglé Culteral Balceria at Sitio Barriles, Volcan
Jan 9th, 2008 by Don Ray
From one of the Yahoo Groups:
Edna Landau, the owner of Sitio Barriles located just outside of Volcan, would like to invite the community to the annual Ngobe Buglé ceremonial dances on January 20th. She is really excited about the event because it gives people a chance to learn about their culture and see a truly special ceremony not normally seen in Panama. The male dancers are dressed in animal hides with feathers adorning their hair. Women are dressed in native gowns. There are 4 traditional dances performed by competing teams involving whistles, conch shells, horns and the courtship of women from neighboring tribes. There will be snacks of fresh cheese, marmalade and wine that are made on the farm. Lunch (”comida mono”) of chicken and rice will be served on bijao leaves. The festivities start about 12:30 P.M. Admission cost is $5 per person.
If you would like to make a day of it, Edna will be doing her normal tour at 9:00 A.M. The tour takes about 2 ½ hours. There is no set admission fee but donations are appreciated. For more information contact Edna at 6575-1828

Directions:
You drive straight through Volcan on the main road pass the turn off to Cerro Punta . Take the next main road to the right. Keep a sharp eye out for a sign on the left indicating the turn to “Sitio Barriles”. Once you make that left turn just keep going about 6 kilometers, 3.6 miles, and you will cross a small creek and shortly after see the sign on the right at the entrance to Sitio Barriles.

Good Thursday morning Don Ray!
I believe you will take plenty of photos from a coming happening, I remember some videos last year!
I write this now my Ubuntu, I got it without any help, but I have not yet any loadings here. It have to do in different way - as packets - you know.
We have Finnish book about Ubuntu, so, I have instructions enough.
They have also a new version called Mint, are thinking to try it?
I will to read now, what Tuxi and you have been playing around with Linux :))
Take care!
Hi Leena,
I hope to go and take photos, but I never know what I am going to do until a day or so ahead of an event.
Glad to see you got UBUNTU up all right.Mint is based on UBUNTU, but not distrusted by them.
Hi Don Ray,
I was looking at your description..(in your website), the only thing wrong there…or I should say…it will confuse a bit-…it´s when you said …to pass the road of Cerro Punta, keep going straight ..and then to turn right… it is actually to keep going straight …then to look for the adv on the left side of the street…then turn left.
It is always better if you have a map that you can post in a website…but I think my aunty does not have a map drawn for that road. At Cafe Ezcensia …we sell maps…for the entire valley of Volcan including Barriles.
On the other hand … my wife (Claudia), told me you asked her for our e’mail address so we can get e’mails for people interested on any tours in Volcan, although when looking at your advs for Volcan…I only found there Tropical Trips and Gonzalo Aispurua… is there anyway you can place a link to my website too?.. If you have any questions …please let me know…here I am sending you my website ..and you have already my e’mail address.
Company name: Green Mountain Adventures

My email address in the website needs to be updated …so adding this one to the link it´s always good.
Once again let me know if you have any questions.
