David Super Ice Revisited
Dec 22nd, 2007 by Don Ray
Back on December 5, I took some photos of the skating rink that has been set up in the Chiriquí Mall. At that time I was given a free ticket to use and today I returned to the mall to see how many would be skating.
This is the time of year when all of Panama’s schools are out for two months vacation. That is probably the reason that this rink is set up now and will be open into the middle of January.
They didn’t begin getting skaters until after 4:00PM. They said that the largest crowd would start coming around 6:00PM. Santa had some helpers to help the skaters get used to being on these types of skates. From left to right are three of these helpers (Sue Ellen, Larissa, and Stephany)

When I got there the rink was empty. Finally some people started to show up. The following photos are of Yariela, who received the ticket I was given on the 5th.
Here is Yariela just starting to get used to the skates.

Now Yariela is feeling more confident.

Oops. Spoke too soon! But she hopped right up and started off again.

While Yariela was skating I spent some time talking to her father. He gave me the scoop on a tremendous Christmas Yard decoration. I hope to get out tomorrow and take some photos of it. I appreciate him giving me this tip. He had photos on his phone and they really looked special.

Don Ray:
Thanks for going back and taking pictures. I wonder what is the substance they use and how they are keeping it frozen. I have to admit, I am addicted to your blog now and on Dec 20, when you did not posted new entries I was getting sick…! Anyway, I hope you are recuperated form your sunburns. THe Silvadene somebody suggested is a great idea. Feliz Naividad!
Jaime^
Hi Jaime, It isn’t ice. It is like a plastic substance and when they put the waxy film on it, it is slick. Thanks for stopping in and leaving a comment. Feliz Navidad.
