With and Without
Dec 17th, 2007 by Don Ray
If you wonder if sunscreen really makes a difference, here is an example of with and without. I had put it on my arm and not my leg. Had I left it off all together I would have been one crispy critter. This was taken about 10 minutes ago, so this is 3 ½ days after attempting a self bbq.

Great decision. Your shared experience should be a motivator for every reader of Chiriqui Chatter so that, individually, we engage in a rising-awareness campaign for applying sunblock on all exposed areas every two hours, wear hats, avoid sun exposure from 10 am to 2 pm, and keep a daily track of the UVA-UVB radiation forecast either in http://www.hidromet.com.pa or “Instituto de Geociencias, UP”. My sunblock is Eucerin 50 Plus. Not as fancy and expensive as others, but it does work. There is also a study published about a year ago on the dangers of applying sunblock only once a day and its opposite effects.
Regards,
Thanks Hilda. Where do you buy your sunblock. I need more and don’t think I have seen that brand.
Hi Mr. Williams: You find it at Arrocha, Revilla, Rey, etc. Eucerin has a whole range of skin products. I am sure I have seen creams for suburns. They also have Syndet ph5 , a very good liquid soap. Just ask them. You can also check http://www.eucerin.com. Of course I am not an Eucerin shareholder but any question is welcome. Regards,
Thanks Hilda.
Hi Don,
What an incredible, edifying photograph! Thanks for sharing!
Eight years ago I traveled by motorcycle across America, diligently aplying sunscreen to my face and nose, the only exposed parts of my body, or so I thought. In Texas I found the back of my neck covered in painful bumps. A Dr. informed me that I had sun poisoning.
From then on I always included my neck when applying sunscreen, and never suffered again.
I’m going to show your photos to my wife, a sun lover. It’s sure to give her a “wake-up” call.
Best,
Monte
Man, oh, man, oh, man!!!
Hi Don:
I had no idea you could get a sun burn like that. Thanks for sharing your experience. Hope you get over your burn soon.
Regards,
Omar.-
Monte, Farank and Omar,
This all happened in about a four hour period.
Don,
The sun is hot down here. Proceed accordingly. I find that aloe gel (pure) or aloe with lidocaine are good cures for what ails you. Being from Texas….I mean….it does get mighty hot & sunny there too..right?
Anyhow, I’ve been thinking about formulating a new sun lotion with some flashy packaging… much more risque than the Coppertone girl..perhaps bikini clad babe shaped bottles. Whatta you think?

Might work KK.
