Thinking about Santa and Panama
Dec 2nd, 2007 by Don Ray
My first Christmas in Panama was in 2003. It was an interesting time, because it was the first time that I couldn’t walk outside and have the potential of seeing snow on the ground. In fact, everyday here in Panama has been pretty much like the one before it and the one that is to come.
Most days greet me with a beautiful blue sky and bright sun, at least for part of the day. In the rainy season, the sun may give way to clouds and a big downpour, but the spirits of everyone living here arenever dampened.
I remember being intrigued by many of the stores playing Christmas carols. Most were in Spanish, but none-the-less it put Christmas in the air. They were even playing in the grocery stores, because they sell many things for the kiddos.
I remember watching all of the young ones walking down the aisles and pointing out all that they wanted to their parents. Still the contrast, of the summer like weather, created a mental picture for me of what it would be like for Santa to come to Panama.
On one of those days when I returned from David and seeing children’s sparkling eyes filled with the hope that Santa wouldn’t forget them, I sat down and wrote Santa Comes to Panama.

It is a good poem, Don Ray.
And fortunately Christmas is in your heart, not in snow.
Have a good beginning week!
Hi Leena. You are correct in your thinking.

Hi John,
I had noticed that I had a hit from that location. Thanks for the info.
