Thanksgiving Dinner Options in David, Chiriquí?
Nov 17th, 2007 by Don Ray
I had a reader send me an email asking if I had any idea about where they might find a restaurant serving turkey dinner with all the fixings in Chiriquí. In the past, Hotel Panamonte in Boquete and Hotel Gran Nacional in David have had Thanksgiving Dinner offerings.
I did a quick search on the Internet and found that Las Olas is having a Thanksgiving Dinner.
Hotel Panamonte’s website doesn’t say anything. But I did find a PDF that indicated there may be something.
David’s Hotel Gran Nacional doesn’t even have its own website. This is interesting. considering that it is the largest and most expensive hotel in David.
Anyway, if you know of other options for Thanksgiving Dinner, how about leaving a comment.

Hi Don Ray - in the great turkey search, Panama Bill’s is offering a ‘traditional’ Thanksgiving dinner but apparently tickets must be purchased in advance and according to the sign on their door, space is limited.
Hi DSD. Ok. And what is the backup plan and did they happen to mention a price?
Hi Mr. Williams, Thanks for the nice pictures! Here is the Gran Hotel Nacional´s site: http://www.hotelnacional.com.pa. Phone: 775-2221.
Regards,
Hilda
Hi Hilda. Thanks for solving the Hotel Nacional missing website mystery. I wonder why it didn’t come up on my Google search. Maybe they are trying to keep it a secret.
Regarding Panama Bill’s - no other info than that, sorry I didn’t delve more deeply into the subject as I was focused on my order of ribs…
I see. And pray tell - how were the ribs?
hey don ray,
have you ever seen canned pumkin here in david? or for that matter a pumkin pie? a couple of us guys will be watching the games and feasting at home but we can’t find any pumkin for pies.
No. I haven’t. Most folks use the local variety of pumpkin and I guess with the right seasoning, it would do OK. I think pumpkin is just a variety of squash and that would be calabasa in Spanish.
If it exists at one of the supermarkets, the best bet would be in the special item area of Super Baru or El Rey.
Hi DR - the ribs were fabulous. In answer to Bob’s question about canned pumpkin - I have a list of items I check for on every shopping trip to the major grocery stores and pumpkin is one of them. No hay. If Bob has a recipe using canned pumpkin, just substitute 2 cups of cooked local squash. Also, check the ice cream freezer section in Super Baru - I’ve noticed frozen pies in there but can’t tell you if any of them were pumpkin.
PS - have you noticed the billboards advertising the opening of another Super Baru - at Mall Chiriqui? Also, the Pizza Hut at the new Revilla Centre? Times they are a’changing!
Hi DSD. Thanks for the update. I hadn’t seen the billboards, but I am no match for the David Shopping Diva I wish the Pizza Hut was a Papa Johns instead, but being as close as it will be, I won’t complain.
