I Am A Happy Camper Once More
Sep 24th, 2007 by Don Ray
I received an email this morning, saying that my XP PC was ready to be picked up. Cano, who breathed life back into my UBUNTU PC when it died, solved this problem as well. This time he said it was a typical problem that hits PCs in Panama. The dampness and humidity had oxidized the contacts on the PC’s memory.
He showed me how to use an ordinary eraser to clean the contacts. Way to go Cano!! Micro Technology, and Cano, have prevented me from having a much more expensive solution.
Total cost of this visit - $26.25. You can’t beat that with a stick!

Hi:
I have lived by the sea [on the windward side] for about 20 years. The salt and humidity wreck havoc with all “electronic stuff”!!
I have had great success retading the damage by annual spraying
the electronic components with “electrical grade silicone” [or even
“Food Grade silicone”.
One good supplier is CRC and they come in a “spray can”. The cost
is less than $5.00!!
I have saved thousands of dollars with a “$5.00 investment”…
Hi Don:
I should have also mentioned that I live in Barbados… also tropical!
The “spray cans” are, of course, aerosol…

[I think that studying Spanish is scrambling some thought processes!!]
Hi Mark. Good tip. Thanks
Mark, where do you spray the electronic components? Where would I spray my Dell notebook components, on the outside? inside? When living in Nicaraua, I destroyed my laptop with the humidity, an invasion of ants that layed thousands of eggs in the surge protector, and a rat that peed on my keyboard.
Debbie
Hi Debbie. I hope Mark replies, but I am sure you would spray it directly on all corrosive contacts. Exposed parts of the motherboard. This would be not be sprayed on the outside, but on the inside. Likely there should be something to be found by doing a Google search for ” using electrical grade silicone”
Thanks, Don. I’ll do a search. When we move to Panama…I don’t want a repeat of the same problems.
