Are Those Boots Made For Walking
Sep 19th, 2007 by Don Ray
Ok, get ready for another walk. Put on something comfortable because this is going to be a little longer than the other day. It is reasonably cool out since I had my alarm set for 6:30. I have been a little pokey, so it it about 6:45 now, but if you are ready, lets go.
I am going to take us a different way this morning. We are walking east so in this photo the sun is behind us.

We have made it to end of the block and made a right. This is the street that runs to El Rey and is heavily traveled, so it is better to walk on the left side of the road so that we can protect ourselves from oncoming traffic. Notice that we aren’t offered the luxury of a side walk, so watch your step.

Since I have lived here, this house has changed hands several times. I have noticed a lot of work going on here and it appears that it has been turned into a culinary school.

Anyone want to take a crack at translating the sign in the front yard?

Ok, we just turned the corner and are heading east. The sun is going to be in our eyes some, so for some of these photos, I may have to face the other direction. This total walk will take us about an hour, so pace yourself. You will notice that the houses all have nicely groomed yards.

This house is on the other side of the street and I am facing West. You can tell by the shadows that we have made an early start and we shouldn’t get too hot for about another hour.

Here is a pretty house. Actually on this walk, you shouldn’t see any bad looking houses.

Now this is an attractive place. The sign in the following photo says it is a home for the elderly.

This is the house to the previous building’s left.

This is a vacant lot, just waiting for you to put your house on it.

We are heading this way, in case you wanted an idea of where we are going. Since we are no longer on a highly traveled road, we don’t need to be quite as careful watching for traffic.

How are you doing. We made it to the end of that street and have turned left (south). This is a pretty area. However it has a fair amount of water standing and I think this area is a good candidate to be treated for dengue.

This is a new house that is under construction.

It is using a very attractive brick and this closeup, showing some detail, does it a little more justice.

Here is another view from the other side.

Here is a house that is being remodeled.

Ok, pick up the pace. We still have a long way to go.

Here is a cross street. We won’t go that way, but you can do it another day.

Here is a friendly fellow. He would just like for me to try to pat him on the head, so he could remove my hand from my arm.

Another beautiful house.

Here is another. It also has a couple of dogs monitoring any visitors. I think these were Dobermans.

As I said at the beginning, all of the houses are pretty here.

This is facing toward Boquete. The sun has risen a fair amount. Can you tell the difference?

More houses.

Here is another lot for your house.

I really like to see houses with groomed shrubbery.

This house has a different style.

This house is pretty well hidden behind the trees.

These palms let you know you are in a tropical area.

This is a neat area. If it weren’t for a couple houses, you could imagine seeing Ichabod Crane being chased by the headless horseman.

Here is one of my favorites.

Here is a nice little park like area in this private residence.

Here is another house that has a good presentation.

I need to pick up the pace. I am getting behind.

Pant, Pant. Well that concludes my walk for today. It is now about 7:45 and the temperature has come up into the 80s now. I think I will head for the shower. Feel free to continue your walk if you want to see some more or if you want to sweat off a couple more pounds.

So, Don Ray, which one of those mansions is yours?
Hi Tom. I think I could have a good time in just about any that were in this set of photos, but at this time, they are merely day dreams. I just feel fortunate to be able to walk through the neighborhood.
Hey Don, Did we just see a tennis court in that park. or at least a back board to hit some balls.
Do you know if it’s private or open to the public ? your pics are beautiful.. thanks I love taking walks with you…and feel just as fortunate as you . ha! ha! lazy man style of course but you allow us to take in the beauty of it all.
Mahalo Patricia
Hi Patricia. I have corrected the post to reflect that this is a private residence. I guess, when i went to write , my mind drifted and this area suddenly became a park in my mind.
You are correct that that is a tennis court. Thanks for helping me correct the error in my description of that photo.
Thanks for the tour! I drive through this subdivision every time I come to Panama, just to see what new homes have been built. Makes me want to hop on a plane.
Hi Sieg. Thanks for dropping in and taking the time to leave a comment.
Don Ray:
The sign on the culinary school reads: “Culinary Management and Administration Technician”. Nice pictures. I grew up in David, my mother and most of my family still lives there. My nieces and nephew go to the private school close to your house. I wish I was retired and back in David! But now I live in Fresno, California and years away from retirement.
Jaime
So there is a corner of Paradise in David. Thanks for the tour again. I really do feel like I’m getting an ever better understanding of life around you. It’s good.
Hi Jaime. Thanks for taking the time to write a comment and translate the sign.Glad you enjoyed the photos.
Hi Frank. You know I usually feel like wherever I live is paradise. Mostly it is a state of mind.
Affirmative.
Hola from Boquete, We know that
lovely neighborhood..our builder who built our home next to the Panamote Hotel..lives there. Lettfahlla Nadar.
Don, enjoy your site very much.
Hi Erin. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I am glad you enjoyed the photos and also your home in Boquete.
Don Ray,
great little walk! thanks for taking me with you.
it was nice to see a differant neighborhood that what you usually see in pics of panama life, the contrast was interisting, and I feel invergrated from our morning walk we’ll have to do it again some time, when I have more energy…. right now the walk tired me out , I think it must be nap time!
Hahahah Allan. Glad you enjoyed the photos.
Hi Don.
Great walk and pictures. My problem though, is since my camera is being repaired, I have taken to your walk and not doing mine. No wonder you are looking so fit and healthy as I noticed the other day. Your photos, descriptions and topics are always super. Thanks.
Hi Jerry. Thanks for dropping in. When you camera gets fixed, you will have to take over the walking.
