Have You Visited A Neotropical Savanna
Aug 19th, 2007 by Don Ray
If you are interested in the plant life in Chiriquí, then you owe it to yourself to visit the blog ¨A Neotropical Savanna¨.
This is an extremely good blog without any of the blather found in Chiriqui Chatter. Here is how the blog describes a savanna.
A savanna is… “…a natural and stable ecosystem occurring under a tropical climate having a relatively continuous layer of xeromorphic grasses and sedges, and often with a discontinuous layer of low trees and shrubs.” Cited by Kricher, J., 1997. A Neotropical Companion: An Introduction to the Animals, Plants, and Ecosystems of the New World Tropics (2nd ed - 1999), Princeton University Press, 451 pp.¨
The author has recently added a section on the families of plants covered in the blog´s posts . The blog also contains a reference section containing plant reference books. This is a very well written blog and a must read for those living in Chiriquí and interested in Chiriquí´s plant life.
