Apple Mac Mini
Jul 22nd, 2007 by Don Ray
I decided to take unpack the Mac Mini and see if I could get it running. I had purchased 2 gig of memory at Frye’s in Texas and thought I should install it before connecting it to my monitor.
I had read several write-ups on doing the memory upgrade and knew that it was going to be a challenge. I just didn’t realice how much of a challenge it was going to be. I think I probably ran into every problem possible in doing the upgrade.
Popping the top was as nerve wracking as all the write-ups predicted. I did get the top off without breaking anything. Then you have to remove the hard drive from the case to get access to the memory slots.
That was accomplished, but I did manage to remove the Airport Antenna. I installed the memory and then it took me a long time to figure out where the Airport antenna connected.
All in all it took me about two hours to disassemble and install the memory. Then before putting the case back on I powered up the Apple Mini. It powered up fine and I thought I could declare it a success.
I put the case back on and then reconnected it to the monitorm keyboard, mouse and speakers. It was then that I realized that in my previous test, I had not tested the speakers. They were not working. Obviously I somehow disconnected the audio cable and I am going to have to go back into the box and figure out how and where to connect the sound.
Hopefilly this wount be too big a problem, but until I solve it, I will be off line either because I haven’t solbed the problem or because I am depressed. Oh yes. This is being posted using the Apple Mac Mini.
