Upgrades In And All Photos Moved

I believe that the flaws with the move to WordPress 2.2 have been corrected. I have all photos now in the correct directories and the appropriate posts pointing to the new directories. The photo move will mean that Google Images will send a lot of folks here and they will get a 404 message since the photos are now in a new location. I also installed the latest version for the Chat facility.
I now have a new challenge. I went to a special lunch yesterday and took photos and videos. On Windows XP I always used Movie Maker to edit the videos and prepare them for uploading to YouTube. Now I need to learn if there is a corresponding program for producing movies on Linux.

Give kino a try. With my wife’s still camera, kino had to convert the .avi file to a format it could work with. An example is on my video page.
If you’ve enabled the multiverse and universe repositories, kino is a simple apt-get install kino (or aptitude install kino), but I’d suggest using synaptic (System/Administration/Synaptic Package Manager). Also install the “Recommended for Installation” and “Suggested for Installation” (right-click on kino in Synaptic). These should give you all the tools you need.
Hi Tuxi - I found kino yesterday and installed it. For some reason I can’t get it to accept the avi file that comes in from my canon camera. I also installed LiVES. LiVES brings in the video, but it doesn’t have the audio. I think LiVES also wants more memory on my PC to work correctly.
I will try to put some more time in with kino and see if I can figure out my current obstacle.
Did you get all the recommended packages for kino? I haven’t tried the import since I moved to Ubuntu. I don’t recall which library I needed to import my wife’s Canon .avi files. Make sure you have mencoder, ffmpeg, and mpeg123 installed. (It may be mencoder, part of the mplayer family, that was needed for the import.)

I am not sure which of the recommended packages did the trick, but I was able to import the first video. It is sure good to have UBUNTU experts as close as your last problem post!

I’ll bet installing mencoder did the trick. If all you want is to translate the Canon .avi to a format you can upload to YouTube, we can probably write a simple bash script to do the job. (Mencoder has sooooo many options, it’s challenging to understand.)
I am still playing with it. I will contact you when I hit my next obstacle.
