Hi Kevin. I had just got done researching which version supports my version and UBUNTU said it was version 6.06. I am in the process of downloading it. When I get it downloaded I will burn a CD and save all the files that I have changed while I have been on Linux, then install version 6.06 and restore my files. I should be able to get that done tomorrow. Thanks for doing the research. I must have been doing the same thing.

Don,
It came to me while watching game two of the Stanley Cup (what hockey has to do with Linux and Scanners I don't know), SANE Project. I checked the site in between open ice hits and found that your scanner is not supported. After checking several Linux an Ubuntu forms I found that only people how use Dapper 6.10 have success with Cannon scanners of your type. I don't know how much time you have invested in Fiesty Fawn, but you might want to try Dapper Drake, which is the long term support version of Ubuntu.

Hi Tuxi. - Yes, Unfortunately when one has existing equipment you try to use it. If I were willing to buy new, I would research for a recommended brand. Now I just need to make this one work.

Don Ray,

That's a bummer.

Whenever you look for new equipment (printer or scanner) you might want to check the HP Linux Imaging and Printing site ( http://hplip.sourceforge.net/ ). Both Fedora Core and Ubuntu are packing HPLIP in their default distributions.

I've stayed away from Canon because they tend to be less supported on Linux. When I've been at my Dad's house, I've had to have him print stuff since his Canon printer isn't supported.

No, I won't. I use my computer for business as well as entertainment, so I need a rock-solid OS with minimal surprises. I will upgrade when the next Long Term Support (LTS) version is released. This is not to say that I won't install 7.04, or some other Linux distro on a test computer, because I'm always looking for the best solution.

This is a pretty common problem with new releases. I first noticed it way back when I upgraded from Mandrake 7.0 to 7.2 and my sound no longer worked. SuSE was better, but usually something that worked in a current release wouldn't work in a new one. I was really hoping I wouldn't enounter the same with Ubuntu. The computer at the office has a Lide-25 (Lide-20 no longer available) and works just fine on Ubuntu 6.1. This is a problem that Linux developers need to pay careful attention to. Who wants to buy new hardware every time you upgrade the OS?
