Mario’s Bar & Grill
May 2nd, 2007 by Don Ray
The last Gringo meeting in David I heard about a new Mexican food restaurant and it was getting rave reviews from those that had been there. I am always on the look out for a good Mexican food restaurant, so today, I set out to find it.
I heard it was in the old location that Mar del Sur had before moving to its current location. Now if I could just remember where that was, I would be in good shape. I went to where I thought I remembered and as luck would have it, I found Mario’s Bar & Grill.
To get to Mario’s you drive from the InterAmerican Highway turning onto Ave. Porras (across from KFC). Continue droving until you see a carwash on the left and this Atlas bar on the right. The photo is taken looking toward the InterAmerican Highway, so don’t get confused.

At the corner by the Atlas bar, turn right. About a block away you will see the following sign with the restaurant on the right.

Here is the restaurant.

I had heard that it was only open in the evening, but I saw a man unloading a car and taking it into the restaurant, so I walked over. It was Mario. I told him I had heard about the restaurant and wanted to try it some time. He said it opens at 4:00PM all days except Monday, when it is closed.
He said he used to be across from El Rey, but when the new shopping center came rent was increased and he had to find a new location. I enjoyed talking to Mario. He went in and got a menu for me to see and said to come back again we could talk more over an Atlas.
Here is his menu. The prices are good and I plan on trying it out. If you beat me there, tell Mario you heard about his restaurant on Chiriquí Chatter.

I went to his restaurant/bar a few years back when he was across from El Rey. My husband and our friends had 3 or 4 appetizers with our drinks. Let’s just say that I STILL think about those appetizers! They were that good. My husband told me that his restaurant closed but failed to tell me that he moved. Guess he wanted to prevent me from eating too much Mexican on my next visit there! Hehe…no, he’ll be really happy to hear he is at another location. He’s a funny guy. I think he used to be a police officer…
Shawna
Hi Shawna. Well you are another positive referral. I hope to get by his restaurant real soon. You have made me even hungrier.
