A Little R & R

Posted by Don Ray on Apr 15 2007 at 09:46 am

Thought I would let you know I am taking a little R & R in Panama City. I brought a couple of books to read and haven’t planned anything else.

I have scheduled a meeting with Omar, one of my Panama City Blogging buddies, for this evening. Omar always keeps me up todate on all the Internet browser upgrades. While we have communicated often via the net, this will be the first time to meet face to face.

Just thought I would let everyone know not to expect a large number of posts for a while. I will try to keep up with my email. Now go out and smell a few roses!

    Don Ray,

Something for you and Omar to talk about (assuming you get this in time) is the upswing in the use of Firefox. The usage of Firefox has reached ~25% in Europe and is at ~12% from the Rio Grande southwards (see http://www.xitimonitor.com/en-us/browsers-barometer/firefox-march-2007/index-1-2-3-77.html).

How do we, as users, influence the web site providers to use standards instead of Microsoft’s broken browser and tools? This could easily eat up a lot of time ;-) .

    Enjoy your R&R.

Interesting site. I will give the URL to Omar. That will probably interest him.

  3. Hi Tuxi:

Thanks a lot for your interesting link. As times goes by, we are evidencing how Firefox has been steadily nibbling away at Microsoft Internet Explorer’s base. Soon, Firefox will reach the 20% landmark, which is quite remarkable considering that Microsoft has all the money in the world to fight for its territory.

Firefox is very popular in Europe, especially in Eastern European countries.

We did have an interesting chat last night cooled by two delicious ice creams. Don is so full of information and stories you can talk with him for days. I really enjoyed the face-to-face meeting as Don called it. I just hope it will not be the last. I invited him to my house to eat typical Panamanian food; meaning the food we eat normally during the week.

    Best Regards,

    Omar.-

    Omar,

I for one have been using Firefox on Linux since the point releases (to the best I can recall, if not, I took it up shortly after 1.0). I’ve gotten my family to generally use it, and I’ve spread the Open Source message at work where several people are using VLC (media player) and the GIMP (graphics) on Windows. — Now if I can only get my company to move to a better computing platform, but that’s going to take time.

Glad you had a good meeting with Don. I have no doubt that he has a lot of stories to tell.

I enjoy reading your posts here. Maybe I should start reading your blog too.

  5. Hi Tuxi:

Welcome to “Epiac’s Place” at any time. The red carpet is waiting.

    Best Regards,

    Omar.-
